This is kind of triggering because my daughter-in-law would have had to carry two dead fetuses for essentially an entire trimester if she had the tests done in Iowa instead of Minnesota (where she got an immediate D&C and bore two lovely children subsequently).
But that's not what I really want to say. I want to say that in every other case, if you have an infection and there's a safe, recognized medical procedure that will cure that infection, and you and your doctors believe it should occur immediately, it occurs immediately. So please, Justice Barrett, explain why this is different? And why it being different doesn't violate the Constitution?
As usual, the cruelty is the point with these people. And they can justify it from the Bible; there is little in the way of cruelty and atrocity that can't be justified from the Bible. Genesis 3, after Eve gave Adam that bloody apple, God supposedly told her, "I will increase your trouble in pregnancy and your pain in giving birth." - The Good News Bible (Ha!)
If true, that would imply that to decrease women's trouble in pregnancy is going against the will of God. Or, shout it from the rooftops, that the Book of Genesis and the others too, are loads of rancid garbage, savage myths handed down by word of mouth for centuries in the Bronze and Early Iron Ages before they found written form at last circa 700 BCE.
And even after that they were several times edited and redacted.
Yeah. Tell the punish-abortion-by-death crowd that.
Fun fact - religious leaders and theologians were loudly and angrily opposed to giving women anesthesia during childbirth because they said it directly contradicted the will of god.
These "moral leaders" believed that it was a outright requirement for women to suffer and even die in childbirth because of a story in their fucking Big Book of Folktales.
Other fun fact - religious leaders in England were very loud about anaesthesia for women giving birth being sinful, from a LOT of pulpits. But Queen Victoria was then on the throne, and she had a LOT of children. The next time little Vicky was in labour, she screamed, "Give me anaesthetic and no fucking back talk!"
That settled that. The sadistic God-botherers backed down like the cowards they were.
What women have to deal with in states that strip their rights to their bodies is horrific!
Why did so many women vote for Trump or not vote at all? Women could have saved us all, but they didn't.
You need to address that one first, otherwise the battle for November 5, 2024 is being fought again, and we know how that one unfortunately turned out.
I wish the NYT would do a Cletus safari talking to all of the R voters who are female about it. Maybe something would turn up about lowered taxes, or some other RW BS that persuaded them.
"...congressional reporter Paul Kane [wrote that] three years post-Dobbs, abortion has supposedly “faded” as a major issue for Democrats"
Not this Democrat. And not for any pro-choice person I know. Sure, a whole lotta other issues have climbed on board, if they weren't riding with us already; most of the folks I know have a veritable smorgasboard of incredibly important issues, and I might also note that there's a lot of overlap between the core ideas of various seemingly unrelated issues, usually boiling down to bodily autonomy and our individual independence.
Sigh.
Deeper sigh.
This is a hard time to be living in, and I'm one of the luckier ones.
Why all of this pope talk. Who cares what white guy is leading the special friend in the sky group? These followers can't even talk to their special friend, they have to tell some random man that they have been bad .
It's as bad as these anti-abortion freaks.
This poor woman.
No one should have any say in her healthcare decisions. Even doctors are there to advise and assist, not dictate.
Women, and some men, fought hard for the right to abortion. These motherfuckers who took it away are evil. People who support that shit don't care if women suffer in any way.
This woman could have died from delayed treatment.
Doctors who are too chickenshit to help should get the fuck out of the way.
I understand your anger, I share it. As to "get the fuck out of the way," the exodus of medical staff, including doctors, leaving the forced birth states has begun.
How the hell can those idiots in South Carolina invoke their "Fetal Heartbeat and Protection from Abortion Act: when it was clear that the fetus no longer had a heartbeat?
So if one of the legislators responsible for this law gets appendicitis, do they have to wait 2 weeks (or just 11 days if something?) before they can have their appendix removed? What if the appendix (which contains human genetic material) develops into a fetus? That is something that happens, isn't it?
This is some of the stupidest, most senseless fucking nonsense I have ever heard. In what universe is a dead fetus going to somehow improve in status by waiting around longer for the mother to get sepsis?

If men needed abortions there would be drive thru on every corner! Just like Jiffy Lube!!

Some things are just so ugly…we have some horrid lawmakers and people in this country…
Ta, Robyn. No notes.

I really hope that people start moving out of these states, leaving only the MAGAts and their enablers.
Then innocents wouldn't be the ones that are harmed.

Are they that thick - or just that evil?
How could this happen? We were repeatedly told that Roe was settled law!
Re the Washington Post, I think that whatever-the-opposite-of-improved-is would be "disproved" since they now print lies.

These fucking legislators all belong in prison.
But... they let the Santorums keep theirs in a jar!
