All this reminds me of James Henry Hammond, namesake of a South Carolina "segregation academy", who sexually abused four of his nieces:
Hammond's Secret and Sacred Diaries (not published until 1989) described, without embarrassment, his sexual abuse over two years of four teenage nieces, daughters of his sister-in-law Ann Fitzsimmons and her husband Wade Hampton II. He blamed his behavior on what he described as the seductiveness of the "extremely affectionate" young women.
Of course it was all the young girls fault -- such seductive young Jezebels. I do have a hard time discerning which of the two Carolinas is more perverted.
That, together with the prominence given these holy should-be felons in his campaign, is terrible optics. Or terrific, depending on whether you are Robinson or his opponent.
As you point out, Republican Jesus said, "Let the children suffer, and do not stop their tormentors." So obviously, Robinson (who longs for the good old antebellum days) fits right in.
I really can't take any more of these asshats today. It's way too hot, 90F with a dew point of 75; I'm having unreasonable anxiety (about my personal life, the political anxiety is quite reasonable); and while it's long been my theory that this country has always been just one or two pubic hairs width from a Christian Evangelical version of the Taliban or the Mullahs, the "Told You So" value is definitely not worth living through it. I need a drink, and the Surgeon General, killjoy that he is, has determined that no amount of alcohol consumption is safe and the wine industry was just pulling our chains all along about that "but the French drink two glasses of wine every night and look at how happy and long-lived they are" bullshit. Screw it, I'm getting a beer!
I doubt there's any connection, but here in Dallas "Word of Faith" was an early (80s) mega-church run by notorious God-charlatan Robert Tilton. It was a Pentecostal, speaking-in-tongues "prosperity gospel" kind of church.
That Alice Munro story--OMG
Jesus wept as do I.
his great-great grandma, too, if she knew

great, a "church" in western NC has adopted the good old Maoist "Self-Criticism Sessions", not hinky at all.
It makes one question if *any* of this lot are sane, rational, decent human beings. And the answer is a hard 'no'.
Just vile. I don't know what in this screams "unrepentant sex abuser" -- but isn't his speech weirdly defended?

Ta, Dok. What scum.
Dok- you'll never see this, I'll try to hop in earlier when you're posting, but I have to say I love your note post:
Yr Wonkette is funded...
Robinson is filled with Christ’s love.

I’ve heard the expression putting lipstick on a pig, but Mark Robinson looks like what would happen if you used a pig in a Grecian Formula commercial.
Silk hat on a donkey.

"Blasting session?".
Sounds like getting "jumped into" a street gang. Robinson is a screwball. Hopefully the NC voters reject the lunatic.
Common theme of the day? Accusing children of being at fault for allowing themselves to be molested. https://www.wonkette.com/p/this-lawyer-blamed-a-12-year-old. Assholes.
it's so nice of him that he reduces women to wombs which don't seem to belong to said women. how exceptionally kind.
and victims are to be blamed. I know that exact kind all too well.
but it's okay because it's for Jesus! never mind.

All of a sudden I am craving a nice frosty Peche Lambic
Take three deep breaths, then get that beer.
Enjoy your beer. "no amount of alcohol consumption is safe" Seems a little overboard, no?
