If they're cutting the weather services, you should probably avoid flying in the US. The billionaires constantly flying (private or commercial) don't seem to understand that cutting things like weather forecasting and air traffic controllers also affects them. Maybe a few of them will find out the hard way.
I just got out of the basement. Third time I've had to take shelter down there in less than a week, and there's still at least one more day of this shit. Unfortunately, unless the rain slacks off (at last check, it was falling at a rate of 8 inches per hour) significantly real soon, I won't be able to go back down in the basement again, regardless of what's coming our way. I don't have gills. At least the tornado wasn't close enough to see, like it was on Wednesday. Mind you, that was earlier in the evening, and it wasn't raining nearly this hard then, so take that for what it's worth.
People are going to die tonight, if they haven't already. People died Wednesday night. Without the NWS to warn us to duck and cover, a lot more people are going to die on nights like this. Without the research from NOAA that the NWS relies on to model these increasingly common nightmare storm systems, a lot more people are going to die on nights like this. It's that simple.
Now, I'm going back to blasting music loud enough to drown out the storm, because at this point there's nothing left I can do. I ain't got a boat, and I got nowhere to be anyways, so play on, orchestra.
Ta, Dok. Sometimes living in this country feels like being back in first grade, where I was the only student who knew how to read and write, and wasn't allowed to skip ahead to second grade because it was illegal in the county. FFS!!
"Severe storms this week have caused tornadoes, high winds, and flooding across large parts of the country since Wednesday, killing a least seven people so far, with more storms expected in the Midwest and Southeast in the next few days."
I truly dislike saying this but maybe... just maybe... this is Karmic justice for voting to reelect the Fulvous Fuckwad -- the tornados, winds, and flooding only; no one deserved to die because of a state/region casting its votes for someone who should never have been let within fifty miles of power.

"climate change, which Trumpers consider a made-up “religious” belief that can be safely ignored."
Climate change *is* a made-up religion; unlike the RINOs beliefs in Pseudochristianity and American Evangelicalism which are real things.

I guess now we'll never find out how the Jewish Space Lasers work.

"Local TV station WAVE also very responsibly reported that the Weather Service announcement didn’t directly link the staffing issues to the mass shitcannings at NOAA, instead leaving the audience to put two and two together."
WAVE did the right thing for self-preservation. The viewers with any intelligence will have no problems with the addition, while the typical MAGAdroid will. Had the station spelled it out the 'droids would have gone apeshit crazy and insisting that the FCC pull their broadcasting license (which they would do in a heartbeat given that Mooseballs Mussolini has reworked the Commission to meet his needs and wonts).
"We hasten to point out that this is indeed just a metaphor, and not an accusation that weather balloons did 9/11." I noticed you put this in for the benefit of Marge Trailortrash Greene.
The global weather models from different countries all rely on data collected from global balloon releases. Crazy weather doesn’t recognize national boundaries. The amateur nerds who look at these models for predictions of their favorite weather conditions such as tornado outbreaks, hurricanes and snowstorms are going to be pissed not to mention the pros.
OT, except that it's someone fired by Trump: He fired the doctor who was the one who ordered the monoclonal antibodies for him when he was almost dead from COVID:
I'd argue it's not OT, since it was someone fired by Trump -- or whoever he hired to do the firing, since he's notorious for not doing firings himself except the fake ones on TV, since he's a coward -- and also someone fired for Doing Science
They're trying to dismantle any government agency that actually provides information to the public without charge. Wait until all we have is Weather.com and AccuWeather.com and wait for the subscriptions demands to start.
In America in 2025, that most of these people affected are in the parts that voted for this means "Yawn, the leopard ate your face." No sympathy from me.
Maybe Stephen Miller can speak at funerals, explaining it’s all in people’s minds and their “recently deceased” relative was not squashed by a falling tree, but rather they’re traveling abroad, outside of cell coverage.
Which is kind of true, if you ignore the squashed by a tree part.

Terrifying to read! I'm really sorry that you are having to go through this.

Again, maybe, just maybe, today's weather isn't climate. How hard is it.
Everyone complains about the weather, but no one does anything about it.

I'm sorry, i lost myself.

Will Sir still allow the sirens to siren?
If we don’t know about the tornado, it isn’t there.
By the Lights of Chernobyl, you speak the truth, Comrade!
