Shutdown, Breakdown, Takedown: They're Busted!

It's your Sunday show rundown!

Here we are in the longest shutdown hellscape in our nation's history, created by our tantrum-throwing White House resident. And the Sunday shows ... well, they said words!

We begin with South Carolina Senator Lindsey "Mint Julep" Graham.

Transmitting from a secure location where he hid the last of his dignity  

In a discussion with Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday about the possibility of replacing Ruth Bader Ginsburg in the near future (NO!), he tried to peddle an alternate history of how Sen. Schumer and retired Sen. Harry Reid are responsible for lowering the vote margin for Supreme Court confirmations (even as he accidentally gives away the truth). Wallace, continuing his "Call Out Bullshit Tour," corrected the record in a vain hope that Fox News viewers might accidentally get FACTS on their channel:

GRAHAM: [….] So this decision by Reid and Schumer may come back to haunt them, but I am dead set on making sure it is a conservative nominee. And elections have consequences. The rules of the Senate were changed not by me, by them, andwe had to do it on the Supreme Court because they would not give us any votes to nominate anybody and Kavanaugh was a fine man, they tried to destroy him. All this is going to come back to haunt them one day.

WALLACE: Yes, let me just really quickly explained that when the Democrats with the majority, Majority Leader Harry Reid changed it for judicial nominees short of the Supreme Court and for cabinet appointees.

GRAHAM: Right.

WALLACE: It went from the 60-vote margin to 51, and then the Republicans did it for the Supreme Court. Senator Graham, thank you. Thanks for your time.

That would have been the end of the interview if, like a guy who was embarrassed publicly, Graham didn't have to get in one last "tough guy" word to maybe impress his Russian blackmailers (allegedly) and/or his peach patron:

GRAHAM: Can I just say one last thing?

WALLACE: Yes, sir.

GRAHAM: One last thing. We don't need -- we don't need one Democrat to replace a liberal justice. And the reason that's the case is because of what Harry Reid did. What he set in motion. Thank you.

WALLACE: Always good to speak with you, sir.
(Graham sits there without speaking until feed is cut)

WALLACE: OK. I guess you think it was OK to speak with us....

Next up is House Minority "Leader" Kevin McCarthy on CBS's "Face The Nation." Margaret Brennan asked McCarthy if the Republican House leadership would take ANY action against Rep. Steve King of Iowa, who's been so overtly racist even the GOP hasn't been able to ignore it completely. The evasion to the answer was loud and clear:

BRENNAN: Should there be action against Congressman King?

MCCARTHY: First, and foremost, I came out at the very moment -- that language has no place in America. That is not the America I know and it's most definitely not the party of Lincoln.

BRENNAN: Should he be punished for it?

MCCARTHY: I have a scheduled meeting with him on Monday, and I will tell you this: I've watched on the other side that they do not take action when their member says something like this. Action will be taken. I'm having a serious conversation with Congressman Steve King on his future and role in this Republican Party, because --

BRENNAN: What does that mean?

MCCARTHY: As a leader. There is a number of things you'll see that is taking place, but I will not stand back as a leader of this party, believing in this nation that all are created equal that that stands or continues to stand and have any role with us.

In other words, they're doing NOTHING. There will be Jeff Flake levels of head shaking and disappointed looks. There might even be another hollow Sen. Tim Scott Washington Post Op-Ed . But actual action taken to say they are not standing by this? Nope. Why? Because this isn't Steve King's first time at this white supremacy rodeo:

Or as fellow Puerto Rican and personal favorite new Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez pointed out when a Washington Post Op-Ed tried to lament the "sudden" (?) racism within the GOP:

“Seeds."

Out of the minority of seats they have in Congress, the GOP allowed a white supremacist to represent ~700,000 people.

Republicans won't even censure him.

They also protect a president who can't bring himself to condemn neo-Nazis.

Those aren't seeds.
