Terry Pratchett, satirical fantasy author, creator of the Discworld series of novels, and all around fine human being, died Thursday at the age of 66. He had been diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease in 2007, but kept writing until the completion of his final novel,
You can totally start anywhere. The first two I started with (was years ago, can't remember which now) were Moving Pictures and Hogfather. The satires are the best. As a wonkette reader, you'd probably enjoy Jingo. Strata is a proto-discworld novel and is also an excellent place to start.
He's the only author who could make me laugh out loud on the regular. My favourite quote about my favourite city:
"Poets have tried to describe Ankh-Morpork. They have failed. Perhaps it's the sheer zestful vitality of the place, or maybe it's just that a city with a million inhabitants and no sewers is rather robust for poets, who prefer daffodils and no wonder." Terry Pratchett, Mort
