Way to blow most of the credit you got for fleeing in the first place, Dems. Only one of you had the balls to stand up for themselves, and you might know it would be not only a woman, but a POC.

What you SHOULD have done was call the Republicans’ bluff, refused to sign anything, and dared them to do something about it. Instead you followed your natural instincts: to give in, to compromise, to cave.

QUIT DOING THAT. Coming back and attempting to fight after giving in just makes you look even weaker and more pathetic. And we’re not in the mood to give out any sympathy votes. You’re gonna have to earn them.

The GOP addiction to Gerrymander is obvious: Trading Ann Richards for The Three Stooges -- Bush (Moe) / Perry (Larry) / Abbott (Shemp not Curly) and a quarter century of slapping and sticking it to the people.

Are even Texas republicans so tone deaf that they can’t see how the optics are this are so bad?

I was quite annoyed that they didn't all stay with her, but now I'm thinking this was planned to keep the story going into additional news cycles.

Having a Department of Public Safety officer follow them around at all times, and arresting them if they left town, and presumably then throwing them in jail, must cost a lot of $$. It would be much cheaper to put them all on House Arrest and make them pay the monthly GPS monitoring fee, which is what Missouri did to me. I'm surprised they didn't try this. I suspect they thought that nobody would say anything about the "permission slips" whereas the House Arrest option would attract more attention. They thought wrong.

Is there a way to kick Texas out of the union? After we move all of our military assets out of the state they can show us their big boy tough guy pants as they defend themselves against Mexico. Alamo 2 Boogaloo.

Queen Méabh's avatar

The Joint Resolution for annexing Texas to the United States, signed by President Polk on December 29, 1845, formally admitted Texas as the 28th state of the Union. This resolution followed earlier approval by the U.S. Congress and the Republic of Texas.

In a proper dictatorship the dictator could simply rescind this Joint Resolution and PRESTO! Texas would be an independent republic again. Then Mexico could claim it as having been illegally stolen from them, and claim it.

But we don't want to live under a dictatorship.

Martin Shobe's avatar

Not an expert, but i think you could do it by having congress pass a law kicking them out and then having the citizens of Texas vote their agreement.

It is not just the Jerry-mandering. It is the fact that this was ordered up by the Orange Void himself - give me 5 more seats. So blatant and corrupt. Fuck you texans and your votes/districst/representatives. It is already Jizzymandered to shit - but this is so so corrupt and wrong.

But "journalists" refuse to sound the alarm and then explain that it really is something that regular people don't care about. So, the messenger won't deliver the message but it's the receiver's fault for not getting the message. Have your cake and eat it too!

Lynn Veit's avatar

I have been absolutely livid at the mainstream media's milquetoast reporting on this. That is, if they even bother to mention it at all

The Blessed Reverend's avatar

I made a decision to move out of Texas and back to Mass. I have family and friends there. I"m taking this Jizzymandering thing as a springboard.

Iver been thinking about it for a while but I have hesitated because I"m retired and living on SS and so far everything works - so there is an reluctance to change anything. But now I think I"n out of here

I have an ex in Mass who has been trying to lure me back. I'm gonna give him a call today. My Brother and his wife have been here for the last 10 years - right down the street. But he is retiring and they are moving to Boston in October. They have the moving van all set up - maybe i'll see if I can load some of my stuff on with them.

I don't want Texas to steal my vote. I want to vote against Donald Trump next year. I'll have to time everything so that I can get my MA voter registration card before.

I am fearful and I'm totally excited too. Me and Daisy are getting out!

Good for you. I’m moving to CANADA! I’ll have dual citizenship so I can vote absentee. At least until Charlie Dumbfuck gets put in charge.

Holy smokes how did you swing that?

My brother and his wife have dual cit - they lived in Toronto for many years

When this Trump era is over we're going to need a "Truth and Reconciliation Commission" or perhaps more than one.

gene108's avatar

We are going to need to throw Trump, Vance, Miller, Gov. Abbott, Ken Paxton, Republican Texas legislators, everyone at Fox News, everyone ever associated with The Heritage Foundation, etc. in prison for the rest of their lives.

As long as the fascists are free, they can keep trying until they succeed.

Queen Méabh's avatar

We might need a new Constitution.

We won't do it. We didn't even deal properly with the J6 insurrection. People just want to "put it behind them," so they don't have to consider their own culpability.

OT. We are all art critics, now.

"'Washed up has-been loser!' White House erupts at famed rocker for criticizing Trump decor"

The White House clapped back at the White Stripes front man Jack White after the famed rocker criticized President Donald Trump’s Oval Office makeover on Tuesday, calling the Grammy Award-winning musician a “washed up” and “has-been loser.”

Long a vocal critic of Trump, White took to social media Tuesday to criticize Trump’s redesign of the Oval Office, which under his administration has been adorned with gold moldings, fireplace mantels and figurines, calling it “vulgar" and “gaudy.” In response, White House spokesperson Steven Cheung took aim at White and his career in a comment to The Daily Beast.

It is what I call monochromatic gauche. I don't think even the French aristocracy went to such over-the-top lengths. I mean, I'm pretty sure the aristocrats added some blues and blacks to that gold design. With Donnie, it's all faux gold fucking everywhere. If I were his interior designer, after the job, I would kill myself.

"The unexamined life is not worth living" (ho dè anexétastos bíos ou biōtòs anthrṓpōi) -- Socrates. Unfortunately, Socrates took that philosophy a little too literally. Suicide by hemlock. We only know about him because of his student Plato's writings. And from Plato sprang Aristotle. Dang, the Greeks did not lack in the brains department back then.

I don't think any of Trump's general miasma of hangers on and associates recognise that it makes them look as petty as they really are when they can't let any insult pass.
