As a general rule, if the comment is here, and seems nasty, try as a first assumption that it's sarcasm.

If you stick around for a while, you'll recognize commenters, of course, which makes it easier.

It's not a matter of slack, it was great rhetoric (in the original sense). Mentioning guns would have weakened the emotional strength of her argument about removing the flag.
