The United States is hopeless, because one party is profoundly corrupt to its core, and the other is too obsessed with decorum and norms to do anything about it.

"South Korea’s Constitutional Court, which by law is handling the impeachment, had scheduled his trial to begin January 14, but seeing as how the defendant was hiding out in his residence, proceedings were adjourned until he could be obtained."

Someone explain to me why they couldn't begin trying the asshole in absentia?

I mean, yes, the accused has the right to a be present in court and defend himself against the charges against him and so on, but if the only thing stopping him from doing so is his own stubbornness? I say let the wheels of justice turn and see how things turn out.

It’s partially the fact this is all happening so fast that nobody has been able to effectively mount a defense. In the immediate aftermath quizlings as weak as sir Kevin of McCarthy were deeply pissed

There should have been an impeachment vote 1/7

The impeachment process is useless in the new hyper-partisanship. It's a criminal thing and there should have been arrests, from the top down, on 1/7.

At least someone learned something from the lesson of Trump. Just a shame it wasn't the US.

There is far too much respect given to "the office of the President" (and SCOTUS for that matter) in this country. They're just people, and some of them are very bad and should be removed from positions of power.

Will Trump give him a pardon?

Fun history fact: One of my ancestors was directly responsible for the witch trials in New England.

Semi-OT and important: Please call Holy Mike's office (202 225 2777) to tell him that temporarily raising the flags on inaug day is going to cost the GOP votes in 2026 and cost the GOP support *now* (Holy Mike won't be moved by arguments about showing respect to people who have earned it, or about patriotism). Interrupting the ritual of respect is a huge insult to Jimmy Carter, to the office of the presidency, and to every patriotic American.

Remind Holy Mike of another factor that will cost the GOP votes in 2026 and cost them support *now*: that more than half of the electorate DIDN'T vote for djt -- and that some portion of those who did are appalled by this decision.

Remind Holy Mike that if the flags had been lowered for a dead djt and that if some Dem had asked for them to be raised for a day, the HOWLS OF OUTRAGE would never end -- but of course no Dem would be so babyish, classless, thin-skinned, and arrogant to insult a former president, a truly great American, and a revered American ritual.
