The not-guilty verdict in the Jason Stockley trial is just the latest example of what "justice" looks like in the MAGA era. Stockley is a police officer who said he was going to shoot a guy, then shot the guy on camera at close range, and then processed the crime scene himself without gloves. That is, of course, how the gun he said his victim had came to have his fingerprints on it. His victim, Anthony Lamar Smith? Well, his prints were not on the gun. That's only the beginning of the shenanigans, of course, but this bit of writing isn't about Jason Stockley, exactly. It's about the police in the place he worked.

Once again, it seems to me that the prosecutors might have overcharged. If you only give the finder of fact (judge or jury) a "murder" count, they're never going to find a cop guilty when he's in the 'scope and course' of his employment. A "murder" charge involves "intent". That will never happen in these scenarios. So, prosecutors need to charge things like 'negligent homicide' or...if they charge the cop with murder, they need to allow the lesser-included count of manslaughter, for example, to be considered by the judge or jury. I wish that a murder charge would stick with one of these assholes. But legally, it's not going to happen. And prosecutors need to charge appropriately so they can get some convictions against these cops.
I discovered them through my sister-in-law. She uses the service and recommended them. At first it felt weird to order food sight unseen, but the convenience outweighed the weirdness so that faded quickly. Now I love it. Although, I think the one thing they could improve on is to have a bit more varied selection.

As a person that loves brussel sprouts, I can't imagine anyone who doesn't like the smell will ever be able to enjoy them. It's their calling card. They smell like strong medicine in a way.

People like you kill me. Why would anyone opt into a system that treats them like crap? People talk about capitalism (or socialism or any other socio-political system) as is it is objectively better. It isn't. The social system that works is the one in which people feel like they can get ahead and are treated fairly.
The nasty policing, the unfair policing, the stop and frisk and broken windows, has created a system where people do not buy into the system, have no expectation of the system ever treating them fairly. They opted out long ago.
