My own view is that a reply to the SOTU will always fall short because it’s not done in front of an audience. If that speech were given at a rally, with a crowd that is enthusiastic and supportive, you would get a very different view in comparison to the “static set” speech that usually happens.
I have NEVER been able to bring myself to watch SOTU addresses, not even from Presidents I admire. They always seem to be so general and glowing and boring, and the responses just more of the same but with a partisan slant.But, Stacey Abrams as the Dem response-giver? this, I might watch.
