I thought USA cops were notoriously undertrained? Especially in de-escalation techniques, dealing with their own fears, and how to create a non-toxic workplace culture.
Edit to add: But what I read here makes me think those things won't be taught there.
Not as socially relevant, but I am totally against destroying an urban forest. Why, exactly, did it become the site of this not-wanted cop shop? Probably because the authoritarian-adjacent have no respect for nature, not to mention their city.
Really glad activists are being smart and spreading the protests to related orgs and companies. The Georgian and Federal authorities have certainly been using every dirty trick they have to stop the protesters, including mortal violence.
Success in Atlanta will mean that these horrific training facilities will start popping up everywhere.
Recently, l had an interesting conversation with a police officer in my town. He said that the force was understaffed "because no one wants to be a police officer anymore." Community policing is not very exciting. Attending to car accidents, responding to citizen calls about minor problems, investigating random shootings and house break-ins is not something that young people want to do anymore.
What these types of training facilities will do is attract people that want to shoot people.
There must be a whole lot of corrupt politicians, grifters, and cops in Atlanta and GA in general looking at a whole lot of money to put up such a fight for this unpopular monstrosity.
Cop City? Well, at least Antifa's management and board of directors now have a reasonable target for this summer's "burn it all down" festival. Hopefully they do a better job than they did in Portland, which just sprang right back up every morning.
Wisconsin has so far fought back about the Cop City plans in Fitchburg. They reportedly are springing up all across the U.S. If this isn't connected to Fascist Project 2025 all my flabbers will be gasted.
There are a couple police upskilling schools around me, where the sheriff's departments meet in a pole barn and practice wearing bulletproof vests, fighting and firing high-powered guns. Kind of like a teachers workshop but for killers.
Will check it out when I get home. Sorry your friends are losing bookings for this. One of my favorite bands, the Drive-by Truckers put out a trilogy of albums that included songs that were pro-BLM and anti-NRA and lost almost a quarter of their old audience, but gained some new fans as well.
Considering the most recent case of cop meeting an acorn, I don't think having a training facility in a forest is the wisest move. But then most localities don't hire cops for their smarts.
There are already multiple cop training facilities all around the country.
This is absolutely not needed.

"Cop City might not be built? But I'm angry NOW!"

Get this thing built, shut down, and then four words: Cop Rock Theme Park.
Gay bar: Top Cop Fudge Pack.

interesting. Police forces understaffed and crime rates in America at historical lows (adjusting for the covid years)
Wow, it's almost like we don't NEED so many fucking cops...
Cops ALREADY view american citizens as enemy combatants, we sure as fuck don't need to reinforce that with dedicated MILITARY bases for them
Nationwide...is on the cop's side...
You're in good hands with.... THE STATE....

I get a real School of the America's vibe from this.

My blood runs ice fucking cold contemplating the class curriculum in a cop "school".
Just imagine it if the christofascists get in power.
I am not long for this world should that occur.
I have more years behind me than ahead of me...It makes me sad that I find comfort in that
Cop City is some absolutely fascist shit, and the judiciary is actively using it to come up with new ways crush protests with lawfare.

But... those aren't the skills they're lacking in. They lack de-escalation skills and emotional self-management, among other things.
Read that at first as "upkilling schools."
Same same.
This is my best buds band "Los Ojos Muertos" (The Dead Eyes) and their song "Fuck Cop City"
They are Atlanta based. Funny, but a lot of more popular venues won't book them anymore since this song was released. Give 'em a listen:

Just downloaded it and paid what I thought was a fair price for a single. Wish your friends the best for me.
Thanks so much! I'll let them know.
