The Romans did not conquer Britain, or anywhere else, in order to impose their state religion on anybody, it was just a standard state power grab. The Aztecs were sui generis, and once the opposition to their empire had coalesced into power blocks too formidable for easy conquest the "wars" devolved into something resembling the ancient Celtic habit of cattle-raiding your neighbors, not attempts to forcibly convert their neighbors to their bizarre and bloodthirsty gods. Nobody got along with the monotheist Jews. And it was Socrates, not Plato, plus his was a rare case and so not really exemplary.
