I'm assuming Transvaginal Sam signed off on the decision because he saw the f in "mifepristone" and figured that was one of those old-school S's the Founding Fathers used in the 18th century when our law was cast in stone. "It's an old word, so it must be okay."

Americans keep voting for right-wing extremists in many parts of the country, and this is the price -- in the case still to be decided, the issue is whether the individual adult has any rights or is just a unit of flesh in a "grander" moral/religious/eschatological scheme. So in plain English, it might be fine with the SCOTUS majority if a woman has to die to preserve the life of the child she is carrying, or even just to make a point (i.e. if the child isn't going to survive anyhow) that she is "only a vessel." These same people who think this is good will then be in favor of treating the child like garbage, and withholding the support necessary for it to grow into a well-balanced adult -- you know, all that superfluous nonsense like adequate food, healthcare, social services, and education.

In Mr. Chump's speech, they probably cut away just before he demanded a billion dollars to guarantee a nationwide ban, no exceptions, on Day One.

It's Waterville, Maine, not Oregon. Yes, the newspaper is the Portland Press Herald, but it's the Portland in Maine.

It's right next to Springfield, right?

I had a final term/last moment abortion.

It's called a caesarian section.

Mine graduated with honors, owns her own company, and once proclaimed me the coolest mom EVAH. (I knew how to juggle tennis balls AND always had pudding pops whenever she had a sleepover.)

So fuck these idiots. My last moment abortion is perfectly perfect perfection.

I don't even know what these assholes are talking about anymore. I know they don't, either. Yet, the MAGAts beeeeelieve. 💜

The Danbury Institute was only formed this year, in February - so, of course, they are only having their " first annual Life and Liberty Conference". As it is, it appears that PAB's address to them was in the form of a two-minute pre-recorded video - he couldn't be bothered to physically appear.

Maybe the timing wasn't right for him to physically appear.

I imagine that's a delicate balance of drugs with a limited window.

Remember, the mifepristone case was declined due to lack of standing. So no decision was made. All it will take is some woman who claims she was harmed by that drug or a doctor who did have to provide emergency care for a woman who used the drug to file a new lawsuit with the same district court judge. Then you may see a very different outcome. So this is not safe from court action in the future.

Mindy OkayIloveyoubyebye's avatar

There would have to be medical records. No one could just say they were harmed. She would need paperwork, records, testimony.

As for the doctor providing emergency care: they have to. It's called the Hippocratic Oath. That doctor could lose their license to practice. And if they're affiliated with a hospital, that hospital could be sued, too.

Please, I absolutely beg you, don't make women frightened more than necessary. Angry, yes. But not frightened by things that can't happen. 💜

Also, physicians don't lose money by providing care. That's not how the system works.

That was a ridiculous part of their argument.

This is a total smokescreen anyway. The partisan RWNJ hacks on the SC have never let a small thing like "standing" get in their way before. They were afraid of getting blamed if the GQP loses in 2024. They're just punting until after the election, at which point they will outlaw Mifepristone, and surgical abortions nationwide. They always play the long game.

Remember the website creator who was never asked to make a gay wedding website? Totally had standing.

I would love when just women had these discussions. Ya know, those of us with the girly parts everyone seems to obsess on. 🙄

In other not-good news, two S.C. women Republican senators who helped defeat a near-total abortion ban were primaried out and a third is in a runoff. BTW, they're the only female Republicans in the body.

In related news, the S.C. Senate announced plans to change its name to the "South Carolina Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice."

I remember when the Cons used to accuse the Libs of buying the voters with "chicken in every pot" promises, I think it was this morning. Here is Trump everywhere he goes it's like he's selling used cars: "What would it take to get you into this beauty today? " Oh well every accusation yadada yadada.

Maybe we should just wake up, smell the coffee, and get used to the idea that we need to pony up whatever amount of some cash it takes to buy Clarence Thomas a nicer Winnebago than he's got now. The same with Alito. As the joke goes, "we already know what you are, we're just haggling over the price now."

Senate republicans are liars, just like their god, the felon. What they said today, and then did, regarding IVF, is a textbook of example of "believe what they do, not what they say."

I don’t suppose the plaintiffs in the mifepristone case got schooled by SCOTUS on the concept of standing?

Welp, we couldn't bring ourselves to flush FDA processes over a clump of cells. But still, should we flush the federal backstop of emergency care availability over a clump of cells? Every day, another serious question. What say the 14th century experts?!
