I'm a harm reductionist, starting my new job as a patient navigator in The Bronx right after Labor Day. We're not about "abstinence only" or any of that crap. In fact, we've been petitioning the Anonymous people to stop SHAMING people for partaking of MAT (medication-assisted treatment) when they go to meetings.

Two big busloads of us went to Albany on a cold, sometimes rainy April day, met by others from Rochester and Buffalo. We held a die-in in the street across from the Medicaid office (this was End Overdose Day, April 8th) to protest Medicaid putting up barriers to people getting Bupe or Methadone.

Before our action, we met with politicians, supporters, and most heartbreaking of all, mothers whose kids ODed.

When underlying mental health issues meet chaotic drug use, all too often the only action taken by the state is arrest. We've already had Good Samaritan laws passed, which is why when I used Narcan to keep a kid from dying on a Brooklyn street, the EMTs only wanted to know how many milligrams I'd given him. It was Fentanyl, as it is so often these days. The EMTs just thanked me; never even asked my name. IIRC, the new legislation we want is waiting for Gov. Cuomo's signature.

Health and peace, Tacos. I'm afraid if right-wingers in TX had their way, drug addiction's not the only thing they'd criminalize rather than treating with compassion, dignity, and respect.

I was rather surprised by how much I enjoyed them! It has been a few decades since I last consumed a genuine beastflesh burger, and I the veggie burgers I've been eating since never pretended to taste remotely meat-like.Mmmm...now I want another one, and that is NOT going to happen today.
