And that's why most popular music is REAL! Those K-pop "bands" are totes REAL. They write the songs, play all the instruments and everything is recorded live on 4 track with no digital effects or autotune shenanigans. The public demands it.

"I don’t think most people really want to watch AI movies with stolen faces or read books “written” by AI with stolen words."

AI promoters: AI is great because you can make it work without paying it. It's like slavery except totally ethical because the AI isn't sentient.

Also AI promoters: You should say "please" and "thank you" when talking to an AI in case it's sentient.

Yes the time is now to implement an ai and robot tax. Each bot would need to be taxed based on the number of jobs wiped. Social security, unemployment, worker comp, state and federal tax’s. No they can’t be independent contractors. The end game is of course UBI because otherwise there will a very limited consumer class and those with money will not be able to leave their bunker/house. We need to apply the taxes retroactively at this point and establish a tech funded UBI program asap. Start with every ai program, a multi trillion dollar seed fund is needed to get this going, maybe charge ai royalties for all the pilfered artistic and journalistic content used to build these abominations.

We already know AI is incompetent. The Trump Adminstration, esp. DOJ and HHS, use it. And their documents misinterpret articles, make up specialists, make up articles, rewrite citations, change “required” to “recommend” etc., etc. I’ve confronted colleagues who use AI to show me the actual citation to back up what their AI says. They CANNOT do it. My work now takes at least twice as long as NOTHING can be trusted.

There are things that AI can do very well, and things it is shit at doing. You cannot use AI to generate a legally binding document, because it's going to hallucinate numbers and make shit up. Thus, anything involving money still needs a human to supervise and give the final say so. If the AI is being used as a tool by the person supplying an estimate or writing a contract, then it's an expensive overkill of a Mad Lib system BECAUSE WE HAVE HAD THE TECH TO DO THAT WITHOUT GEN AI for over a decade!

We joked that we just need to take our existing macro and placeholder (mad lib) system and start labeling it "AI" so people will realize that the shortcut already exists in their software.

I’ve read a number of non-dystopian sci-fi stories based in a future in which automation becomes ubiquitous, leading to wealth and plenty for all, and people thus spend all their time on hobbies and art and etc. They rarely go into detail about how to get there from here though…

In thinking about this, I’m actually surprised that putting robots to work in agriculture, to replace all the immigrant/migrant laborers, isn’t high on their list. Despite Grampa Assmouth’s claims, “the groceries” are going up and will likely continue to do so, because of a worsening shortage of people willing to travel around the country all year doing shit jobs for shit pay. And paying higher prices for their food is one thing which might get even the Cult to reconsider their support.

They learned that digital robots are easier to make than physical ones.

Also, we already had the farming revolution for many of the major crops with combine harvesters. It used to take a labor force of 200 people to pull a cotton harvest off 100 acres. Now you can do it with 10.

Migrant labor is still used for the crops that the combines can't handle, like berries. I recall seeing a video about trying to make robots for a greenhouse hydroponics system for bell peppers, which actually did need some AI fuzzy logic for the robot to be able to tell a ripe red, orange, or yellow pepper from an unripe green one. The downside? Couldn't grow green bell peppers!

Oh, you think we have a lot of mass shootings now? Wait until there's 20% unemployment. A country awash with guns and a lot of desperate, angry people looking to spread their pain around. Or that decide if they're going to starve/freeze/die of untreated disease anyway, might as well take as many people as possible with them. Those CEOs are going to be spending all their new profits -- for however long they last with no one having money to spend* -- on beefing up their personal security.

*Because it goes without saying that "reducing labor costs" will NOT be reflected in "reducing costs to consumers."

I worked in Elder Care and I need somebody to explain how a dedicated server rack will transfer someone from their bed to their wheelchair. How will they toilet, shower, dress, and groom a client when they aren’t sharing physical space? If you’ve ever changed an adult diaper after a blowout, there’s a lot of say nooks and crannies that require a very thorough and delicate touch. Most importantly, humans need to be touched by other humans. No robot is going to be able to hold the hand of a hospice patient and whisper words of comfort during someone’s last hours. I don’t care how sophisticated their programming is, a robot could never comprehend grief, nor console all the loved ones mourning in completely different ways.

So they asked chatgpt to hallucinate how many jobs AI can replace in the next 10 years?

chatgpt cannot even get a pregnant body right. https://www.reddit.com/r/ChatGPT/comments/1mxr081/chatgpt_asked_if_i_wanted_a_diagram_of_whats/

Anyone ever live through Microsoft dumping a new version of Windows before they actually beta tested it?

Yeah, I'm not seeing this go as smoothly as they predict. Especially given unemployed hackers with plenty of time on their hands.

Universal Basic Income. If the robots are going to take all of the jobs I don’t see how we’re expected to survive without it.

Ta, Robyn. Those estimates for downsizing the workforce are ridiculous. Home health aides, to use one example from that list, keep their charges washed, dressed, fed, and much more, as well as taking them to their medical and other appointments. We are many years away from robots that can safely escort a frail elder to a toilet, make sure the ass is clean after a bowel movement, and get that elder to her/his next destination. And RNs? You've got to be fucking kidding me.

Sure, techbros, you want robots and LLM (falsely called AI) to take over everything? Then pay your fucking fair fucking share in taxes, have your buddies in Congress institute Universal Basic Income and Medicare for All and while you're at it, have them add vision, dental, and hearing care to Medicare. Paying taxes is the price we pay for civilization, and you aren't paying your fair share. If all this is too radical, you can start by eliminating the cap on Social Security payments.

Also, accountants will only lose 75% of their jobs?

Please.

If AI can do what they're promising, push that number up to 95%.

BUT the people recommending that companies buy this software? Those would be the accountants.

And even these fools aren't dumb enough to tell the people who pay the bills that they're going to be replaced.
