MODERATOR NOTE:

Hey, you filthy fuckaducks, I just deleted an entire subthread in which two readers started calling each other enemies of all things good and decent, and even though both participants in the shitshow tried to include something like logic and evidence, they were in that Internet argument mode where I wouldn't want either of them to be in the same room holding broken beer bottles by the neck.

I also had to remind a completely different person the illogic of their call for all veterans to be "fucked good and hard," every last one of them, because military vets voted nearly 2 to 1 for Trump.

It's an accurate statistic, but I think maybe that's a poor solution, since it amounts to calling for the 34% of veterans who voted for Harris to be fucked good and hard too. That's a population that includes Tim Walz, Sen. Tammy Duckworth, and a hell of a lot of Wonkette readers who I can name, and so can you.

So no, let's not be calling for collective punishment of sinful groups. And yes, we still prohibit calls for violence in general. This is not because some people aren't assholes who make America objectively worse, but because this is a fucking civilized place, fuckers. It's a blog, and venting your violent fantasies really will not do anything to bring the change we need.

I know that a lot of us are pissed off about the election, and on top of that a lot of us are further having very legitimate emotions related to the murder of that insurance CEO, either seeing it as a proxy for rage at how fucked this nation's health "system" is, or being horrified that people are talking about shooting a lot more CEOs who all have it coming.

Just a reminder that the GODDAMNNED COMMENTING RULES REMAIN IN EFFECT, PLEASE AND THANK YOU AND HAVE A STRESS FREE GODDAMNED WEEKEND.

yes, please, we did not vote for Trump and my husband really does need his VA benefits, thank you. Also, we'd gladly trade his VA benefits for a working back, working lungs, working ears and no fucking PTSD. I hate every single person who voted for this prick.

Just the gall of that writer in the Economist to assume that people WANT to be disabled. He would rather have all of his parts working than be on VA benefits, you know what? The doctors said he has a back of an 80 year old FROM wearing body armor and carrying a pack on his back. His hearling loss is from being in field artillery with substandard hearing protection - provided by the Army, his breathing problems are from burning oil fields in Iraq, burning everythign in Afghanistan and his PTSD is from all of the above. They can go fuck themselves. They took a healthy man and wrecked him. They can fuck off

Sorry, I'm just so angry because literally all the doctors can do is 'pain management' so no he can't just 'Get Better' he was reading the Economist article last night so I was ready to comment about it somewhere

I was forced to try that 'break a beer bottle to have weapon' shit when some guy came at me with a motorcycle chain - the fucking bottle broke right at the neck and I was left holding a bottle neck just barely sticking out of my fist. Beer bottles just don't break like they show in the movies (I ended up taking the chain away from him and hitting him with it). My ex had sicced a motorcycle gang on me. One life's little lessons

Darling husband Meccalopolis is a Navy veteran who will retire from teaching public school in less than two years. I suggested to him that he look to VA for insurance coverage once he's no longer teaching. Now we don't know what he should do. He's still years away from Medicare, which has me covered. No, I am not interested in an Advantage plan, GFY all you assholes who keep filling the mailbox with junk offers.

I heard a rather horrifying radio ad one day when I was shopping. It was one of those Tokyo Rose type extended supposedly informational sponsored things that was supposed to sound like news. It was explaining that the reason our state was struggling to balance a budget was because of all those greedy public servants-police officers, state, troopers, firefighters, on oh yes, those greedy teachers— insisted on getting pensions.

Those pensions are actually protected by the state Constitution, but our republican governor has said that all it would take would be a change in the law to take that away.

On a completely unrelated note, our state is struggling to find people to fill those positions.

As retired schoolteachers ourselves, just be aware that some systems, to supposedly save money, are switching all retirees from Medicare to Advantage plans. Either that or go find your own insurance which at our ages is impossible.

My g. g. g. Grandfather was the first Secretary of Pensions for Civil war vets, their widows, and minor children. At that time, the $$ involved were such a huge portion of the national expenditures? It was quickly made a Cabinet position. We know it now as the VA system.

In this country we don't call anything a "programme." Until and unless you motherfuckers go to combat and come back ruined, you do not have the moral authority to pull shit like this.

Hey Elon, cut some of those sweet, sweet government contracts you benefit from. Not 'first,' but instead of going after vets. Pay some goddamn taxes--at MY tax rate, not yours. You people have less honor than dirt.

Yeah My husband 80% disability, had to take medical retirement from the National Guard, is not terribly happy with all his peers who voted for this orange asshole and his band of assholes. My cursing is not up to par today, I'm too mad.

Sir is a problem. Sir is damaging. Sir is the waddling manifestation of wasted time, wasted energy, wasted opportunity. When still, Sir is a Monument to Belligerent Ignorance. When moving, even as Sir freezes and stumbles, slips and slides, Sir is still short of the comedic genius of Jerry Lewis. And so, Sir thrives and exists only in those moments when we experience outrage, anger, depression, and futility at Sir's misguided lashings. Because Sir is small, and Sir is temporary. Instead, give attention to helping ameliorate Sir's actions, helping Sir's victims, and telling the truth about Sir's lies.

But be certain of this: To starve Sir Ignore Sir himself.

Ah, yes, the "stigma" against accepting benefits.

One of the things those who like to brag about their benefit program really don't like is people using the benefits. My husband worked a job where one of the benefits was free access to the local rec centre. It wasn't used much - I did now and then, to use the pool, but otherwise I don't think most of the employees knew about it. Then my husband started going to the gym every day, and around the same time it became the thing to do for teenagers to hang around the pool on weekends, so our daughter was there a lot - I think a couple of the other teens also had parents who worked for that company (small town).

Within two months, the program was discontinued.

The benefits are only there if you make sure to not use them.

There are limits to stupidity.

Sarcasm, I get. This?

This is just plain stupidity.

Some things deserve a response. This?

A nice blanket under the moon on a beach in San Diego Harbor.

Could be arranged.

Let me know when you would like a get together.

Somewhere near Coronado. Seals hate walking through sand carrying idiots.

To less cohesion

A mere collection of parts

Sleepwalking to separation

A second chance

If reason could prevail

The narrowest vision

Often has the widest appeal

A lack of decision

Leaves us open for a steal

Left out, abandoned

We're less than ideal"

Trump can't appreciate dedication and sacrifice -- one can hardly expect that sort of appreciation from a narcissist --so he has no regard for our veterans. I think he will not accomplish the tenth part of the wickedness he surely intends towards the country, though -- he isn't even in office yet, and it's just one report after another about toxic, obscene positions that will turn more and more people against him. He may not need to run for office again (and he will have some genuine loons in his Cabinet to bolster his own madness), but House and Senate Republicans do, so they may not be so enthusiastic about the 2025 equivalents of the "Big, Beautiful Wall That Mexico is Going to Pay for." Remember that one? It wasn't built, and Mexico didn't pay for it.

"It’s a tough world and we have to make tough choices that will not hurt the obscenely rich, as Elon Musk already explained. You people will need to suffer some temporary hardship in the form of an economic crash, but it’s a price oligarchs are willing for you to pay."

I REALLY thought after the 2008 bank and housing collapse a Republican wouldn't get elected for 30 years. I always overestimate the intelligence of the American public.

I am Happy/Sad about this!

Happy that it should alienate many of the members of the Armed Forces enough to think twice before attacking San Francisco on the "GO" signal from Sir.

Sad that so many will suffer directly from Sir's stochastic malice.

I can't find anything in there to be happy about at all. Thank goodness my freaking insurance will continue to pay for my husbands' medical care - Maybe? I mean they have already denied things they thought the VA should (and did) take care of. I know we all went into FAFO mode, but people will be hurt by this shit and not just those who voted for him.
