I keep thinking about planning a Houston-area WonkMeet - there are a number of us here - and would love to meet you! I really need to actually plan something.

You hate to see it, but can't take your eyes away.

How is this hard? I don't understand how this is even a hard concept.

I completely cannot understand how people are not making that connection. Because electoral results would indicate that they are totally not.

Yeah, I got nothing to offer, other than fuck Ted Cruz. That’s what he’s worth. Fuck Ted Cruz and the performative bullshit drama llama he rode in on.

Someone should have shot Cruz with a tranquilizer dart.

Cruz: "Answer this question."Mayorkas: "I would like to state that....Cruz: "YOU ARE NOT ANSWERING THE QUESTION!"Mayorkas: "But if you would...."Cruz: "SHUT UP, I'M TALKING. NOW, ANSWER THE QUESTION!"

Repeat ad nauseam.

I am so ashamed of Cruz and Cornyn. I worked hard to defeat both of my state's Senators, but Texas is still a non-voting state. Now that my disabilities mean I can no longer block walk and do mostly remote rather than in person campaigning, I have a harder time fighting despair. Being a progressive in Texas is not easy.

But voter suppression works. No online voter registration. Must have a state issued ID to vote, but many rural counties have no state offices to get an ID. Texas is rated as having the strictest voting regulations, and is currently considering a bill HB990 that will ban county wide voting. I'm a volunteer voter registrar in Harris County, where Houston is the county seat, and there were state wide shortages of the voter registration forms in 2022. Harris County alone has more registered voters than the 26 smallest states by population, but it is subject to election audits and lawsuits. Election officials can no longer send absentee ballot registrations to people who have previously voted absentee. A bill was introduced to disallow voters over 65+ being automatically approved for an absentee ballot.

All valid points. Voter suppression is not the same a gerrymandering, but the effect certainly looks like it.
