Fuuuuck! One of the reasons I live in a blue district in a blue state is so I don't have to write terse emails to my senators and representatives because I could rely on them to do the right thing. Cantwell is one of my senators and Larsen is my rep.

Called Hillbilly Elegy, for what good that was.

We could go to publicly-funded campaigns. That way, corporations and billionaires who'd want to influence the election would have to pay more in taxes to do so.

I share your disappointment with Maria Cantwell and raise you a "deeply". Maybe she had a fever that day...or something. And I do know who Rick Larsen is. I likely voted for him at some point.

Sometimes in the overflowing sewer of GOP turds, it’s easy to forget about nuclear-grade asshole Ted Cruz. The fact that he’s leading Colin Allred by double digits makes me detest Texas, as unfair and silly as that is.

Ta, Dok. That Cruz found two Democrats to sign on to this SHIT is horrifying.

The two Dems both represent Washington state.......home of Boeing Aircraft and the biggest single employer in the state. I see which side their bread gets buttered on.

The Dems on that addendum to the FAA authorization bill (brief aside: WTF? LIKE WE AREN'T GOING TO CONTINUE FLYING FROM NOW ON??? This is more stupidity - there shouldn't be any "reauthorization" of something so critical. Do we "reauthorize" the Department of Defense?) are looking at Boeing and their employees as their constituents and acting accordingly. Local politics elects Representatives so there's that.

We do, in fact, reauthorize the Department of Defense, and in fact have to do so every single year, whereas most agencies are reauthorized for longer periods, because the Founders wrote it into the Constitution that military expenditures cannot be authorized for more than one year at a time. They were expecting that this would keep us from the habit of maintaining standing armies in peacetime, not that this would result in Congresscritters tacking on irrelevant riders to the defense reauthorization bill because it has to pass.

Well I just fired off an email letter to Maria Cantwell and plan to do the same for Rick Larsen as I live in Washington state:

I see that you are one of the top six recipients of airline donations according to transparency nonprofit Open Secrets so it is perhaps not surprising you are part of Ted Cruz's push for a provision that would require consumers to file a "written or electronic request" for their refund which would negate the entire point of this being an automatic refund for consumers.

It is not surprising but incredibly disappointing, if not outright disgusting, due to your apparently working harder for those companies who contribute to you over those who actually voted you into office.

Companies use increasingly predatory practices and purposefully difficult to navigate systems in the hopes that a majority of consumers do not have the time or will to spend just to receive proper services or a refund. The practice of airlines to sell tickets for seats they do not even have on those flights is just one of many reasons why consumers deserve an automatic refund for a cancelled flight.

I have voted for you in the past but if you continue to back this provision I will not be voting for you in the future. This country resembles more and more one that cares about the interests of corporations and companies over people. The provision I am writing you about is just one of many examples. The government makes an attempt to help consumers and you want to join with Ted Cruz, Sam Graves and Rick Larsen to undermine it. Shame on you!

In the EU airlines must provide rebates for delayed or canceled flights. However, you have to know to ask for it, and of course they aren’t aggressive about telling you that. Then you have to do exactly what this is talking about, navigate a ridiculously complicated system just to get, say, €50 because your flight was 2 hours late. So…maybe we should be better than those damn socialists, eh?

"Well hey, maybe if you’re not an airline. Rolling Stone adds that the provision comes after an unsuccessful bid by Cruz to pass a separate measure to provide members of Congress with security escorts at airports, probably because you never know when some terrorist or journalist will get footage of you flying to Cancun during a deadly freezing spell."

In normal times, that would have spelled the end of Ted's political career. Same with Josh Hawley's mad dash to the exits on J6.

I booked a flight for a coworker once and it was canceled while he was in line to check in at LaGuardia. So I bought him another flight, as one does, and the next day I called the airline and they insisted the flight hadn’t been canceled. I had to send them a screenshot of FlightAware or one of those tracking things to get the refund.

When I was caught in the coup in Attaturk Airport in 2016 and didn't know if I was going to get out of that mess alive, I did in fact get an automatic refund from Turkish Airlines on my cancelled flight in the event that it could not be rescheduled! And they even put me up in a hotel for the four days until the FAA let their airline fly back into the USA.

It is of course, pure mysterious coincidence that Cruz, Cantwell, Graves, and Larsen get money from airlines. Surely it does not show (yet again) how blatantly the legislature is bought and paid for by large corporations. Certainly not and how absolutely DARE YOU?
