I'm continually amazed at right-wingers' ability to openly despise Jews while at the same time unconditionally supporting Israel no matter what they do, ever. That's an impressive amount of mental contortion there.
That being said, I think the reason we never seem to run out of A Idiots like the Nooge and his ilk is a self-perpetuating combination of sheer ignorance, confirmation bias, addiction to fear-based adrenaline rushes, and grift that afflicts a far too many people in this country.
Otherwise reasonable people who are a little fearful or a little angry get drawn in by the cheap answers and easy and satisfying rage the derposphere offers, and are trapped by their inability to critically examine the claims they hear about how what should be a grown-up examination of different opinions regarding issues and solutions is really an epic, ongoing battle between Us-Good and Them-Evil. The assholes get louder and uglier to satisfy their adrenaline-junkie audiences, and the audiences get angrier and stupider as they listen to these assholes.
I find it very interesting and quite telling about all those who kept quiet while Nugent made racist comments directed at the POTUS but antisemitic comments are what cross the line.
