Frankly I am appalled already at just how hardened the school are already. I taught in the days of loose schools from 1965 to 1998, the days of people worrying about anti-war demonstrators, back when drugs were becoming rampant.
We had no guns allowed in schools. Parents stopping by your classroom to ask about their kids. One old couple taking a short cut through the first floor back hall of the school to save a block of walking in the pouring rain. I miss having the occasional dog snuck into school, sitting under a kids desk.
Lets just treat EVERYONE like killers and prisoners. Set up towers with armed guards.
I swear to doG, I believe that if you let Republicans just keep "enhancing" school security, that'll be the end result -- no more "school-to-prison pipeline" because now school *is* prison, or at least a close enough facsimile that you won't be able to tell one from the other at a quick glance.
Apparently this moron has completely missed the fact that the VAST majority of school shooters are former or current students who know EXACTLY how to defeat such measures.
Imagine if you will a world where left wingers targeted gun shops and the owners of said shops with the passion the rightwingers have harassed abortion clinics.. Has anyone ever bombed Norm’s Gun Shop?
Her real solution is to make public schools too scary to attend, turn them into slums for poor kids, and make taxpayers pay to send kids to private Christian schools for profit.
Ugh. Why do we still have to take our shoes off at the airport? And the no-liquid rule is stupid too. 9/11 was how many years ago? Enough with the useless security theater.
Sorry, low-budget Monica, but Miss Manners long ago eclipsed Emily Post & cornered the etiquette market. Though I’m unsure if she has weighed in on this issue, our guess is that she’d advise her Dear Readers to leave their weapons locked in an appropriate drawer with other intimate belongings.
Plus someone could still storm an airport and kill hundreds of people pretty easily. You don’t go through security to get to ticketing and even then those TSA screeners would be pretty easy to take out with a semiautomatic weapon. The only reason airports aren’t hit more often is because they tend to be in very remote areas whereas these school shooters could pretty much walk there.
I'm sure treating schools, which you spend a large part of your childhood and adolescence in, like airports, that most of us spend very little time in over the course of the same 13-14 ys, will do great things for children's psychological development. Besides, you'd also need indoor recess and indoor sports, no football, no soccer, no baseball, if you *really* want to prevent school shootings. It wouldn't be the first time someone shot up the playground or quad.
I'm sure it would do wonders to the already-bad mental health crisis among kids and teens, which they pretend to care about every time a school gets shot up in order to avoid doing anything about the actual problem, which is the guns. No mental health funding either.

Put a moat around the school filled with sharks with lasers!

These fucking ghouls have no souls. I am done being polite to people who think an AR-15 has more rights to exist than me.

Or picketed outside with big signs of murdered children?
I like that idea, really. I hate the thought of murdered children but can you imagine the pearl clutching?

The problem with that plan is that Xtianist schools get shot up also, too, as well.
yes, but somebody would have profited along the way, so it's fine.
neat. that way can skip the pesky "school" part.
Great, turn schools into armed compounds. The 1990s approach that turned schools into a pipeline to prisons.
pretty sure conservatives would consider that a special bonus that they completely support.

Thing is, they dgaf if the students can learn their multiplication tables or not.
and they really dgaf if a bunch of little kids get shot-up either. Nor do most of them really care about abortions. It's all shit-stirring.
Another thought:
(R)s rail about groomers and predators. (R)s also regard guns as penile extensions. Ergo…
People who open carry should be prosecuted like common flashers.
Will there be Cinnabons and Sbarros?
That's how they'll get around spending money on nutritious food for the kids - outsourcing! Replace the cafeterias with food courts!

"she has more bonehead ideas for condemning our kids to a hyper-secure police state"
Battered women also too...
/FFS
