Texas A&M's loss. They shouldn't worry about it. So what if they won't be getting any J-school students? The won't be getting women, POC, LGBTQ students either because of the hostile environment they would experience there. It'll be fine.

Schools are preparing for a new state law to go into effect in January that bans offices, programs and training that promote diversity, equity and inclusion.

HUH

What about censorship and freedom and what not? Guess it is ok to do bannings and censorships if you are a white republican

In other Texas news: Amanda Zurawski, one of the plaintiffs in the Texas abortion lawsuit, says she would like to have more children, but due to extensive internal damage caused by sepsis, that is problematic. The AG's office is now claiming that, since she is unlikely to get pregnant again, the possibility that she'll need an abortion is remote, and thus she has no standing to sue. These fucking people are monsters.

I taught at A&M for thirty years as a tenured full professor. Before you tar all there with the same brush, I think you might want to review the faculty senate's reactions to this ongoing debacle.

Expand full comment

Pretty sure the only tarred feathers here are the bigots in your state lege that are forcing you all to swallow a "don't hire black people" protocol

I don't think we're tarring anyone with the same brush. I believe the main groups behind this debacle were the Regents, and the state government.

That being said, do you know why it's called "College Station"? So the students can find their way there at the start of term.

Both my parents went to UT-Austin. My uncles went to A&M. Outside of sports, there was no animosity. I know some Aggies have an inferiority complex and feel like the the T-sips look down their elitist noses at them, but it's hard to believe the faculty and students were at fault here. As usual, it's the Aggie alumni screwing everything up, just like they've always done, for example, with the football program. (How's that Jimbo Fisher deal working out, Bubba?)

If I was a gazillionaire, I'd pay the expenses of every person of color (and those that accept them) to flee Texas, and let the pasty-faced leftovers to figure out how to make the state function without them.

Except why would you want to make natives leave theirt ancestral land?

Famous actress and director Eva Longoria still lives on her family's land, now in Texas, but was in the Spanish Empire when her ancestors moves there in 1607. Eventually it became Mexican, and then part of the Republic of Texas, and eventually the State of Texas at one pony in th CSA, andnow in the USA.

So why should she and her reatives move when it was ethnic white people that ultimately took over their land? If anyone should be tossed out it should be the pasty-faced invaders.

Expand full comment

What about the indigenous people? Wasn't their land first before the Spanish started giving it away to Spanish immigrants?

Expand full comment

You are absolutley right and I am very remiss in not metioning that and Eva Longoria has talked about that. I was just referring to the parts where she was specifically talking bout her OWN Family having been there since 1607, and how white people want to get rid of them.

And of course they also want to get rid of the indigenous people, whom the Spanish invaders failed to eliminate, although they sure tried, Eventually some intermarried them, leading to what are called meztisos. Also there are specific words in Spanish for one-quarter European/three-quarters native, etc.

There are seriously about 128 terms in Spaniah, all created by the Spanish invaders to define the various types. You can seriiously have terms for one quarter each of Spanish. native, Negro (their word), and Asian

Of course the people who do run México are mostly of 100% white ethnicity - of course from Spanish roots. Just like the rulers of the US are most from 100% European roots. In México ther will accpet those people, but to them the 'bset' people are still from SPANISH European roots. Carlos Slime, one of the world's richest men is Mexican of ''pure'' Spanish roots.

I do regret my leaving out any info about the indigenous people.

So I happen to be a graduate of TAMU back in the dark ages of the mid 1980s and my primary reason for going there was I wanted to major in veterinary science. What I've found weird since then is that the Aggies I know are generally quite liberal and the UT grads I know are generally uber-conservative, including some members of my family that are unapologetic christofascists. I know liberal Aggies are generally outliers but I'm shocked at the conservative undercurrent that I've seen from UT grads and Austin.

I just wish that both places wouldn't be so damn cultists about their football programs. There are a lot of people that make college football their whole goddamn personalities and it drives me up the wall.

Anyway...carry on.
