Ta, Marcie. I lived in Houston for 16 months in the mid-1970s. I've never gone back to TX, and more than likely never shall. TX Republicans are the worst Republicans, although these days they have way too much competition.
So I went out on a search of this. 2, or 3, or 4 (depending on who you read) of those raided at gun point were 70-87 year old women in their nightgowns, early in the morning. Ken Paxton is a vile human. The rest of the story is just as disgusting. This is the south rising again, history repeating itself. DOJ needs to be involved immediately.
Wow, Abbott is a pissant of the worst variety. If he were blind and palsied he’d still manage to fuck voters over by allowing himself to make a big X as a ballot signature and declare it was perfectly legal.
My lovely, retired mother used to winter in Corpus Christi, years ago when my dad was alive. She asked me recently if she should rent a condo there again. I said, “sure, you can spend the winter where you want.” She asked if I’d visit, and I said no way. I’m never setting foot in Texas again.
Florida breaks my heart, because I lived there for a couple years in my early thirties and I love many things about it. The smell of the air and the sound of the ocean made me happy. I try to remember that nobody owns Florida. Ron D and his terrible administration are a sad, temporary feature. Florida will still be beautiful in many ways long after he’s gone. Texas? They can have Texas. They should build a wall around Texas and dump all the MAGA true believers there. Make Ted Nugent President of Texas. What could go wrong?
It’s hard to believe Ken Paxton exists. He’s so sinister, corrupt and creepy to look at, he seems more like an evil villain played by 1970’s era Laurence Olivier, except Olivier was handsome and talented.
He's like Snidely Whiplash, tying damsels to train tracks to get their fortunes. Except that when the trusty Texas authorities come to save the day, they steal her purse and tie her up even more.
Ken Paxton sure does enjoy being an asshole. Long before Donald John Trump came along, he had embraced Ken McElroy of Skidmore MO as is lifetime role model.
He's twice-indicted on securities fraud and tax evasion. He's supposed to be in jail.
But instead, he's doing community service ...
... while Crystal Anderson, who just tried to vote and who made a mistake, escaped jail after being there but also has some prosecutor friends of Ken Paxton's trying to put her back inside.
Ken McElroy's corpse? As explained by Ambrose Bierce:
HOMICIDE, n. The slaying of one human being by another. There are four kinds of homicide: felonious, excusable, justifiable, and praiseworthy, but it makes no great difference to the person slain whether he fell by one kind or another -- the classification is for advantage of the lawyers.
Instead of a full on national divorce, how about we modernize the city-State concept? Like any metro area of a million or more gets to be it's own state? Likewise, states with less than a million people don't get to be states and have to merge with other states. North AND South Dakota? Fuck you. Y'all are New Dakota. How bout that
How about just honor the Treaty of Fort Laramie, and create a Sioux state with the two rump Dakotas joined in one state. Keep from having to add or subtract a star from the flag.
That worked well in Italy: Genoa, Pisa, Florence, Milan, Venice, Rome and Naples were all effective states. There were places like the Dakotas and Wyoming, but no one ever went there.
New regulations for the elections of the doge introduced in 1268 remained in force until the end of the republic in 1797. Their intention was to minimize the influence of individual great families, and this was effected by a complex electoral machinery. Thirty members of the Great Council, chosen by lot, were reduced by lot to nine; the nine chose forty and the forty were reduced by lot to twelve, who chose twenty-five. The twenty-five were reduced by lot to nine, and the nine elected forty-five. These forty-five were once more reduced by lot to eleven, and the eleven finally chose the forty-one who elected the doge.
He wouldn't have been able to get those essentially-for-harassment warrants at all had John Roberts not gotten rid of the pre-clearance provisions in the Shelby County case (in 2013, folks, that's how long some of us have been yelling about this) because he said "we don't have racism anymore in this country"
I don't think she would but he does have until he is replaced. I also think there will be more violence with the loss of the fucking moron and he won't do a damn thing about that either. He knows he's gone so why bother.
Most non-citizens won't even go to the ER unless they are literally dying. They are damn sure not out there offering up their personal information to the government
“Cecilia Castellano is running for a seat in the 80th district, Uvalde, against former Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin Jr. It’s a hot one because Texas Republicans are itching to pass a school voucher bill next legislative session, so they can funnel tax dollars to private religious schools and help drown public education in a bucket. It’s just one of many services that Texas Republicans would like to provide that are as popular as their dysfunctional power grid.” 🤔
Where was that cool Bexar County Sheriff--the one who spoke so rousingly at the DNC last week--when Paxton got this evil scheme off the ground and into innocent people's homes? Was there any local pushback from law enforcement or politicians? (And, y'know, the whole Venn diagram thing that seems to apply more and more with these groups...You can throw Christian clergy persons in there too.)
Bexar, along with Harris, is a heavily Democratic county where currently state officials are monkeying around with residents' drivers' licenses since that is one form of voter ID that is accepted in Texas
One of my friends had trouble just last week renewing her license and we went deeper and discovered they are deliberately messing around with the records ... taking a leaf out of the Georgia "attempted voter suppression" playbook
“we can’t tell you what fees you’ll have to pay because we couldn’t locate you in the system”
was the message she got
And then this
"I'm a registered Democrat in Texas. After seeing several other posts, I checked my registration. I'm "suspended." It says I can still vote if I update my information (it's already correct) but this has never happened in my 20 years of voting in Texas. Check your registration."
Ken Paxton has that resting smirkface look shared with Matt Gaetz and a few other truly depraved, irredeemably evil hard right conservatives.

I may have to go back one more time but I've seen Texas.
I feel the same way about Texas and Florida as well.
Florida breaks my heart, because I lived there for a couple years in my early thirties and I love many things about it. The smell of the air and the sound of the ocean made me happy. He could only exist in Texas or maybe Missouri.
Andrew Bailey is an amateur compared to Paxton. Paxton is the American Asshole-AG Society's mdel and guru.
Ken Paxton sure does enjoy being an asshole. Long before Donald John Trump came along, he had embraced Ken McElroy of Skidmore MO as is lifetime role model.
Ken Rex got what he deserved. He abused and bullied everybody and thus had no friends to help find his killer. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_McElroy

Has anything good ever come out of Skidmore, MO?

Angry that this BS is going on, glad that I’m no longer paying for it.
I've been feeling the same way since we left Texas, and we were only there for a year and some change.
Instead of a full on national divorce, how about we modernize the city-State concept? Like any metro area of a million or more gets to be it's own state? Only if we take their Electoral College votes away until we can get rid of the whole thing, then
The Republic of Venice knew how to operate Electoral Colleges. From this reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doge_of_Venice we have the following:
New regulations for the elections of the doge introduced in 1268 remained in force until the end of the republic in 1797. Their intention was to minimize the influence of individual great families, and this was effected by a complex electoral machinery. Thirty members of the Great Council, chosen by lot, were reduced by lot to nine; the nine chose forty and the forty were reduced by lot to twelve, who chose twenty-five. Right, them they were all unified as ITALY, which is more famous for its gridlocked bureaucracy, and oh yeah a fascist dictator
But made amazing food, even in a fascist dictatorship
Class. Action. Lawsuit.
Yeah, I'm sure Garland will get right on that in 2025.

White mansplaining racism is so far out there I don't know what to do with it.

Hell is other people
Specifically, Republicans

Ken Paxton is evil.

Fuck Ken Paxton. And fuck Greg Abbott, Dan Patrick and John Cornyn.
Fuck Ted Cruz.
Couldn't be the Thought Police since thinking does not seem possible for these Morans.
