Two were a case of not being strong enough to interrupt ovulation (one resulting in partial miscarriage needing a D&C), and one was the doc not telling me that the antibiotics he prescribed me would negate the contraceptive - so, technically not the contraceptive’s fault, but it still left me unwilling to trust orals.

As well, Depo-Provera gave me horrible periods; my uterus flipped itself after birthing (twice) which supposedly was what caused my constant bleeding with an IUD. And yet I was refused a tubal ligation the times I asked because I was “too young.” Like many, my first two decades as a woman were incredibly stressful as I searched for a method that a) didn’t make things physically worse and b) had buy-in from my partner. That’s what makes this constant struggle for bodily autonomy so enraging for me.
