These people, i.e. Moms for Liberty and other such mis-named groups of troglodytes, as just plain sick. They really should be involuntarily committed and undergo a minimum of 15 years of therapy of the type given to psychotics.

If this shit keeps up in Texas I swear to Cthulhu we will flee to Mexico.

When I was in high school in my very conservative home town, the drama department of my very conservative high school put on the play of The Diary of Anne Frank.

We are going backwards so fast.

Yes, we can't ever discuss sex with our children or let them read or hear about it, or they might engage in it. Also too, we can never talk about hamburgers, or they might eventually get hungry...

Sheesh, these moral scold nutjobs are relentless. And utterly annoying...

Anne Frank has to be hidden from the Nazis, again.

I kissed a girl. And I liked it.

Jeez Louise - I'm 75 years old and by the time I was in eighth grade back in the olden days, I knew about sex. I even knew about guys who liked guys and girls who liked girls (using the vernacular of my day). So, I can't imagine eighth graders today not knowing a lot more about the subject, even if they come from the most repressive home in the U.S. These book banners are just nuts!

I grew up in a dairy farming district. We all absorbed facts about animal sex and reproduction with our mothers' milk. By the time we were 10 we could spot a male vs. female animal across the paddock, were utterly bored with the spectacle of mating, and had watched and probably assisted at several births. This did not have any deleterious effects.

Prudes are weird.

"January 6, 1944, in which Anne wrote about getting her period and 'feeling that in spite of all the pain and discomfort, I’m carrying around a sweet secret.'"

Strangely enough, that is the exact same entry Donald Trump put in his diary on January 6, 2021!

Very illuminating. I love Joy Reid.

Apparently "never again" requires a bit of context: Are we talking about genocide or adolescents curious about their maturing bodies?

Yet another opportunity to ask where are the parents who want their kids to read this sort of thing? Do they have any rights? Nah, just the fucking bible humping prudes get rights.

I think most non-conservatives have jobs and other things to occupy their time, and aren’t able to get funded by Soros-backed astroturf groups to protest keeping “The Diary of Anne Frank” in classrooms.

Well, three strikes against her:

Lesbian (?)

Jewish

Literate

No wonder they have to ban this.

Honestly, I think "lesbian" isn't entirely supported by the diary; she was certainly attracted to Peter. But very definitely curious, like so many adolescents.

The Nazis eliminated any chance of her learning anything more about who she'd become.

Also: anti-Nazi. Which seems to be a bad thing in some circles these days.

My brother sent me an email recently saying that "Hitler got a bad rap." I didn't respond because of the barrage of vile rants that would've followed. For days.

I'm sure it's been said 20 times in the comments but the district/school administration is a bunch of cowards and should be ashamed.

My gut feeling is the school board and other higher ups lean conservative, with it being Texas.

They may approve of the book ban.

Both the cowardice and the leaning conservative frighten me. Is there in Texas a 3rd choice?

I kept reading the call letters of the station as KMFDM and thinking those guys would have some very choice thoughts for these book banning assholes.
