The noise from Abbott’s mouth is getting tiresome. The only solution is to dump him and his hand of confederate insurrectionists.

After South Dakota's "Meth: We're On It" anti-drug campaign, I cannot take anything Kristi Noem says seriously.

The border crisis that Republicans created by getting rid of the Obama era policy that worked 95% of the time, exacerbate, had their crony SCOUTUS command Biden to continue despite it all, and it STILL was not enough so they had to start trucking immigrants to other states and pulling razor wire stunts for news headlines.

The crisis is that we have Republicans as governors in any state.

Immigrants are desperate to escape poverty and violence. They want a better life and chance for prosperity for their kids. That’s why they brave desert and rivers and razor wire and being shot, not so they can sneak a shipment of Mexican fentanyl across. Republicans love to conflate immigration with the American opioid epidemic. American politicians fundamentally misunderstand drug addiction. We will NEVER win the “war” on drugs by attacking the supply. We have to address the demand. Why do SO many people here choose drugs over sobriety? Address that, stop criminalizing addiction, and make treatment free and accessible, and we can save lives and billions of dollars.

Attacking demand would fix the "illegal" immigration "crisis" too. Start locking up executives at companies that are using undocumented workers and the demand for their labor and would make america less desirable as a place to immigrate to from a financial aspect (other reasons not affected). Of course this would also cripple our economy and most industries and make everyone much worse off as we suddenly realize how much of our quality of life revolves around exploitation.

Every couple hundred years the dumbest half of our nation comes together to take on the United States government, for some reason. Instead of fantasizing about national guardsmen going all Kent State on federal border patrol, maybe we should enact new legislation, allocate resources and agree on a unified plan to stop illegal entry, and streamline the legal immigration process? Or, you know, run around breathlessly threatening to violate the Constitution and Supreme Court you claim to hold in such high regard.

Article VI, Clause 2 of the U.S. Constitution

"This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding."

And, for the Texas officials who are ordering them to violate their oaths:

18 U.S. Code § 2384 - Seditious conspiracy

If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or by force to seize, take, or possess any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall each be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both.

This is all pretty fucking straightforward. Biden doesn't need SCOTUS, the Constitution and the U.S. Code authorize him to go in and start arresting / dishonorably discharging people.

I particularly like the blithe assumption that (a) all National Guard members will blithely follow illegal orders in the event of a hot war and (b) they'd be any match for the regular military even if they did.

Abbot's building up to just shooting asylum seekers, isn't he? I mean, that's what you do in an invasion, isn't it? Shoot the enemy troops at the border?

This is so fucked up.

This reminds me of when Trump declared a national emergency because a group of a thousand people were walking from Central America through jungles, swamps, and drug cartels to reach the US border, expected within a couple of weeks of that order. Then stole money from military bases for replacing dilapidated schools and housing so he could build a wall. Something that did nothing to respond to an actual invasion since it takes years to build a wall and those people would be "invading" in a few days. This was just a couple if days after Congress, with the same information Trump had, said we will give you only what we appropriated.

Trump violated federal budgeting rules by not going to congressional leaders to approve moving funds from one budget line to another but the judicial branch of the MAGA movement, the conservatives on the Supreme Court said "no problem Donnie, we got your back on giving the finger to the constitution."

This is a personal favorite “border crisis” memory of mine. It needs an Abbott update, but it’s from one of my favorite spots in Texas - Terlingua. The next town over, Lajitas, they actually had a goat as the mayor for years. Greg Abbott is the worst, most suckiest person in the state Texas… maybe even the world.

My favorite part of this is that despite this “border crisis, ”Gregory Wayne Abbott is galavanting around fkn India like he’s Anthony fkn Bourdain. Meanwhile, we have all sorts of shit convoys and armed goofies coming here to “volunteer in Texas.” Eagle Pass is only 97% Hispanic, so I’m sure nobody will get confused and murder some nice citizen or anything.

I'm an increasingly cranky old white woman who has lived more in red states than in blue ones. And I've put enough years into public mental health work to know some concrete things about poverty, oppression, and structural miseries.

To my ear, the responses to this saber-rattling bullshit are starting to make some of y'all sound like the bad kind of Texans: 𝘾𝙊𝙈𝙀 𝘼𝙉𝘿 𝙏𝘼𝙆𝙀 𝙄𝙏 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙚𝙙 𝙂𝙪𝙖𝙧𝙙... 𝙥𝙪𝙡𝙡 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙁𝙚𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙨... 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁... 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩'𝙨 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮'𝙡𝙡 𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙... (Probably not the most effective way to coax more anti-Trump voters out of the woodwork, either.)

Refresh yourself on the census data, the voter suppression, and the related authoritarian bullshit. I don't think you're rubbing your hands in anticipation because more women are dying this year, and a lot more are plunging deeper into poverty and sickness, under those same damn GOP-rigged governments.

I'm having a big reaction myself to this Abbott mess. But "Moar women and kids oughta die, that'll teach 'em" would be a close cousin to this "blow up the assholes!" take. We're seeing women and babies in red states as victims and freedom fighters, not as collateral damage. (At least. So far.)

At our house, our personal finance numbers don't add up for us to easily leave this red state - and we're way above the median income around us. Many millions of decent humans are living under these regimes. And some of us whom y'all actually know would get caught in the middle of these first-person-shooter scenarios. Life is so damn complicated in this US of A!

Not sure I've ever heard anyone on the pro-choice side say "more women and children should die". Like, not once. Ever.

We have said "this policy will lead to more women and children dying", but your wording makes it sound like we're encouraged by that, which could NOT be farther from the truth.

Unless you have receipts, in which case I'd like to see proof that there is a position paper supported by the left that hopes more people die.

That's exactly my point, let me try to say it better.

When it comes to abortion, I think we all see who's suffering from the evil of those red governments. Same for LGBTQ+ persecutions. People's general position is to GET THAT.

Further, most people understand that it's generally poor women who suffer the most. And that the wives and daughters and girlfriends of the worst goons profiting off their anti-abortion, anti-contraception, anti-IVF, anti-sexuality lawmaking will continue to have options that most citizens of those states don't have.

The thing that's bothering me more and more is how many people on the left (and in the non-comments) seem to be increasingly enjoying fantasies of "cut off everything federal and see how they starve" or "our organized forces are going to blow up your bullshit militias" - without any apparent sense that millions of good humans are suffering under those red regimes. And anybody who says "vote with your feet" gets a side-eye from me unless they're throwing cash in the kitty to help people leave.

I've heard so much "Kill 'em all and let God sort it out" bullshit from red hats already, I don't like hearing that trope from my own folks. RED STATES include a lot of blue people, and green people, and people who are kept from voting, and people who are too demoralized and overstressed to have any faith in "politics."
