So, there I was, U of L, Bedford College. Just off Bond Street, not far from the Lord's Cricket Grounds, a very short walk to the Abbey Road Studio. London West 1 in the mid 80's.
On the weekends, going to see the countryside, I would stop to watch the local teams play cricket. It was played as a shorter game, as no one has the time to play like the pros (for test matches that last for days).
Cricket really is a great sport to watch, and surprising it never really "stuck" in America. The closest we get from that sport is "pickle" or "monkey in the middle" (called that depending on where you live) which is weird that something so cool could result in something potentially so taunting.
Budapest just after the fall of the Iron Curtain; skiing in Chile; Bogota during the FARC uprising; panda watching in China; climbing well inside the pyramid in Chichén Itzá; living on the beach in Rio, flying to the other side of the world (Dubai) and back in a weekend for a miles run.... crazy stuff, just because: Why not! No, I'm not a CIA agent... but I have found myself in some pretty questionable places. And yes, I know where my towel is at.

I had my first shift yesterday after breaking my tibia, and it went pretty okay. It was busy and a little hectic and I ended up with 10k steps, but I am in no more pain this morning than usual. That is a win too.
I am recovered. But being stuck in that stupid orthopedic shoe device for 6 weeks has ruined the musculature in the front of my foot. So now that hurts.

I've written something clear and I hope useful for Cafeen Man. I am willing to reply maybe 2 more times, then I'm calling it a completed effort and going back to not talking with CM anymore. If you have something you want me to bring up and you don't want to say it yourself, you can e-mail me at my name here (no spaces) at the gmail thing and I'll include it in any future statements by me.
I also suggest (though you're all free people y'know) that we don't overload him with too many voices. CM has some learning to do. Based on past experience I'm not terribly hopeful, but I'm going to give it my best shot with providing clear, useful info and limiting my tendency to bash back. It would be nice if we could make the community an even better place than it already is, right? So let's try to do that, even if it just means holding your tongue for a couple hours. I’m too tired to find that post (which got multiple upvotes, so it should be in my activity history), but it was effectively:
1. Talk less; listen more.
2. This isn’t your personal blog. Use your personal Substack or another forum if you feel the need to post every thought that pops into your head.
3. If multiple people think you’re being an asshole, maybe consider whether you’re actually being an asshole before doubling down.
Again, that’s just from memory; I’ll have to find my actual comment. But obviously, it had no impact.

Based on past experience I'm not terribly hopeful, but I'm going to give it my best shot with providing clear, useful info and limiting my tendency to bash back. It would be nice if we could make the community an even better place than it already is, right? So let's try to do that, even if it just means holding your tongue for a couple hours. The thing is though, CM could post a cute cat pic and some posters would still have a go at him. One poster in particular seems to think this is his site and he gets to decide who can post and about what. Said poster is a nname-calling bully.
Okay, but he hasn't earned a lot of goodwill. I've only tried to encourage him, because like it or not, he is a part of this community. Collapse and ignore from here on out.
Encouragement, kindness, and if posters can’t manage either they should ignore. I loathe the mean girl pile ons I see here too frequently late at night. It’s not nice and the people who participate show who they really are.

Honestly, I wouldn’t bother.
I posted something maybe a month ago, where I broke my rule of not addressing CM directly (choosing instead to keep on scrolling, scrolling, scrolling). I only broke my rule because he posted 22 times on a single thread, often replying only to himself, and over half the posts were after he said it was his “final” post.
I’m too tired to find that post (which got multiple upvotes, so it should be in my activity history), but it was effectively:
1. Talk less; listen more.
2. This isn’t your personal blog. Use your personal Substack or another forum if you feel the need to post every thought that pops into your head.
3. If multiple people think you’re being an asshole, maybe consider whether you’re actually being an asshole before doubling down.
Again, that’s just from memory; I’ll have to find my actual comment. But obviously, it had no impact.
I don’t know what the solution is. And honestly, I don’t think he’s an irredeemably terrible person. I think he’s got issues, but this is not the forum to solve them - especially when it comes at the expense of other commenters.
It was about two weeks ago and I read what you had to say, responded with respect and took in what you had to say. Please don't pretend like I was rude to you and blew off everything you said because that didn't happen.
I'm not going to disagree with you that if you don't like him don't talk to him, but there are people being intentionally nasty and rude every time he shows up. It's absolutely disgusting to see the way people behave.

Well, I barely read what you say, but I know it's not anything worse than anything any of us have posted. Second, of the people who lose their shit over you, there are only maybe two who I expect better of than joining in the piling on. That shit is just masturbation of the ego, to go online and attack the same individual over and over again.

Basically. People have options: the can scroll by, they can jump in and attack, or they can be kind. It's a testament to one's character. I admit to jumping in and being mean to people occasionally. Every time one person Announces they are fucking off, I immediately like their post, LOL.
