A man who was believed to be part of a peacekeeping team for the โNo Kingsโ protest in Salt Lake City shot at a person who was brandishing a rifle at demonstrators, striking both the rifleman and a bystander who later died at the hospital, authorities said Sunday.
Police took the alleged rifleman, Arturo Gamboa, 24, into custody Saturday evening on a murder charge, Salt Lake City Police Chief Brian Redd said at a Sunday news conference. The bystander was Arthur Folasa Ah Loo, 39, a fashion designer from Samoa.
Detectives donโt yet know why Gamboa pulled out a rifle or ran from the peacekeepers, but they accused him of creating the dangerous situation that led to Ah Looโs death...
Redd said the man believed to be part of the peacekeeping team, dressed in a neon green vest, fired three shots from a handgun at Gamboa, inflicting a relatively minor injury but fatally shooting Ah Loo. Redd did not share the manโs name.
Volunteer peacekeeping teams are common for protests, said Sarah Parker, a national coordinator for 50501 Movement, which was a partner in the โNo Kingsโ protest. But the organizers ask attendees, including the peacekeepers, not to bring weapons, she said. Still, Parker said they stopped what couldโve been a larger mass casualty event...
Redd said that the peacekeepersโ actions are also part of the investigation...
To be sure, it is possible that riffle man there would have started shooting into the crowd. But imma guess he pulled out the riffle to intimidate and or shoot people, and then "ran" from the peace keepers because when he yanked out his long gun, the handgun was brandished.
Not a hard one for even the police to piece together there

The issue of fees v. taxes has been a huge thing here in Central OK. In order to raise taxes here, lawmakers have to call for a public vote. (They painted themselves into that damn corner.) Anyway, they wanted to raise money for the anti-tabacco fund and so they added a "fee" to the price of cigarettes. The state Supreme Court nixed the scheme and said it was a de facto tax.
CNN reports that the fuckwit who killed the two Minnesota lawmakers has been apprehended, and survived arrest. He's being charged with murder, of course, and Federal charges are being considered.
I pored over the Google satellite view yesterday to try to guess what he would do. There are woods and a creek pretty close to where he ditched the car, and it looks like trees all the way to the Minnesota river, and a rail line on the other side.
But I don't think he had much hope of escaping without help.

Hmm.
Guess THAT peacekeeper won't be invited back.
At a minimum.
So the "peacekeepers" shot and killed a bystander?
Yes, and didn't get arrested (yet).
To be sure, it is possible that riffle man there would have started shooting into the crowd. But imma guess he pulled out the riffle to intimidate and or shoot people, and then "ran" from the peace keepers because when he yanked out his long gun, the handgun was brandished.

an armed society is a polite society, I am told
Ugh, I do NOT want to sit at my desk for 7 hours today, not one bit.
Ditto.
It's just depressing to me, the world is on fire - but sure, let me clock in and waste my day in a building.
Not that I would be doing anything else more productive, but I just don't want to participate in this economy anymore
Fortunately, I am starting a new volunteer position tonight.
Good luck on that, don't mind me... I'm sure I'm just depressed ๐
Me either. Sposed to go out and dig some holes, but the world is wet and gonna get wetter. Seriously contemplating calling out with the excuse of "don't wanna"
Wonder if that would fly.....
You finish the reports?
I DID
It is now up to boss man to tell me how full of shit I am XD
Not that he would, he is so super nice it hurts, it will be more like "Well....I would probably say....."
It'll work ONLY if stated in the perfect whiney voice.
We do got those mental health days I should use before the end of june. Cause they don't roll over.
You're supposed to ask for those in advance, which makes me lol, because don't most people plan their mental health break downs in advance?
I feel like you should be able to get out of stuff that way.
โSorry, no, planning on experiencing a dissociative event that day.โ
I'd love to go dig holes in 98 degree weather with 99.9% humidity, but my frontal lobes will be experiencing a minor compounded delusion event that day....
Honestly just picturing that I may need to talk to my therapist.
"Well, I'm scheduled for depression next Thursday ..."
Also, I hate that old orange bag of shit.

Ha! At first I thought you meant the Queen, and was like, "but she's dead".

I'm still convinced when he thinks he's talking to Vlad, he's actually talking to an AI chat bot with voice. And they have cloned Vlad's voice to use.
I'm mildly surprised he didn't bring up the "Kamala became a Black person" with Rachel Scott, the interviewer.

CNN reports that the fuckwit who killed the two Minnesota lawmakers has been apprehended, and survived arrest. He's being charged with murder, of course, and Federal charges are being considered.
NYT mentions he had a notebook with 70 more potential targets, including "politicians, civic and business leaders, and Planned Parenthood centers."
Sounds like a liberal.

Seen on a trail camera, and then located with a drone.
Glad they caught him of course, but wow we live in the future and the future is kinda scary.
