I wonder whether Mattis was ever a "Doonesbury" fan? I remember Honey Huan's being ordered by Chairman Mao to pull down the Great Wall. She told Uncle Duke she'd duly reported back to the Chairman within 24 hours, saying that thousands of workers had been mobilized and destroyed the wall--whereupon he changed his mind and ordered it rebuilt. That, too, was accomplished overnight. ("He thinks I'm a genius," she assured Duke, who agreed that the Chairman was probably right.)

Is the Con now cognitively impaired as well as a lying grifter? Possibly; his father had Alzheimer's.

In one movement, he would bare his soul. Then the next would have to be a brutalitarian march to please Koba. The piece is premiered, and all await his reaction--- lives depend on it. I just listened to the first movement of the Fifth Symphony 'A soviet composer's reply to just criticism', it was subtitled. The mild modernism of the Fourth could well have gotten him a bullet in the head, and Stalin in those days favored the family plan for executions. It is a monument to despair, but so beautiful. I can't bear the second movement. I'd bet that Stalin loved it.
