Sure didn’t expect that from the American Bar Association-a traditionally conservative or at best moderate organization

The Republican Party supports the rule of law as long as they get to make the rules (up as they go along).

Do we have 17 sane Congressional Republicans? Really? Who?

And THIS is what Musk is doing with our private information that he stole from Treasury

And stop blaming any of this on Democrats. That helps nothing. It won't even make you feel better, because you shouldn't feel better doing it. This is on the GOP, whose congress folks have collapsed before Mad Kings Trump and Musk like a closet full of broken umbrellas.

Now is the time to do good yourself, or at least line up behind those trying to fight back.

Kudos for "den Fuhrer"

I'm a Fed, so all this lawlessness seems to me a very personal affront.

I would love to see a similar statement of principles from the AMA, but would be shocked if they issued one. I'd like to see it from every professional association - just "here's what we believe in, why we do what we do, and we are going to defend and protect that."

No need to attack or strategize, or address policy that isn't clear yet. Just talk about the things decent people believe in doing. We desperately need that leadership now.

Incidentally, one of the professors with tenure under him is John Yoo, author of the "Torture is okay by me" memo.

If we're gonna learn from them, might as well learn first hand. He's like Thomas Sowell - important insight into how their mind works and what worldview they hold.

Taking a quick break from reading to comment on your declension of the definite participle in *den Führer*. I know you think the accusative case is appropriate, but I think you meant *dum Führer*.

Are there actions the ABA can take to show that they are actually serious about their words?? As in perhaps stripping some of the worst of these lawbreaking lawyers of their licenses????

Expand full comment
ShrillKitty's avatar

No. The ABA is a voluntary, optional membership organization whose primary functions are to draft model (but nonbinding) attorney ethical codes and recommend accreditation for law schools. It doesn't issue law licenses and it doesn't have any actual real-world authority other than a platform and its general prestige.
