Today in our Tabs header we appreciate the naïve art of post-impressionist Henri Rousseau. I wrote a bit about him here: https://open.substack.com/pub/martiniambassador/p/henri-rousseaus-lush-landscapes

Thank you. Rousseau is just the bee's knees. If I could take one painting with me to a desert island, and make sure that it was safe and secure from salty air and island rot and ketchup throwing Stop Oil protesters, it would be "La Bohemienne endormie" (a.k.a. The Sleeping Gypsy). I think a persuasive argument can be made for its being the 19th century's greatest painting.

Ladies, lions and sporting men

Make my head begin to spin

Hidden birds that never fly

A lovely clear blue Paris sky

Mustachioed gents in funny hats

A tiny bunny, furry cats

The images chosen all were hits

Especially the naked lady's tits

My mother adored Rousseau, and I grew up with reproductions of his artwork scattered around the house.

I still think of her every time I see one of his paintings (and I think she would have appreciated that).

Ugh the American Horror Story hotel season. WHY does my interest in spooky stories mean I want to watch sex torture porn? I DO NOT.

Can a Supreme Court Judge go to jail? I think we have at least one that should.

Second-wave feminism will never die at Berkeley.

Don't understand why Becca is going to the terfs, who are only mentioned once, in a footnote. Barro's pivot is to (can you guess?) Hamas. "More broadly, any inconvenient facts must be re-explained in a way that allows any phenomenon to be shoved back into the framework of hierarchical oppression." Jews were slaughtered in Poland* , therefore ...? As if history started on October 6.

* ... see also slaves in Egypt, captivity in Babylon, and destruction of the Temple by Romans. You would think that if ANYBODY was down with people not killing masses of "other" people, it would be the Jews.

So, the precedent for being allowed to call Brett Favre a thief and a welfare cheat is being able to say Jerry Fallwell drank Campari?

Well, birthday went mostly well, til I got home after dinner with an upset stomach and ended up losing everything in the toilet. Damn. It'd been a good dinner too. No clue what happened. But the rest of the day was great. Went shopping with mom for clothes and also hung with my folks in the afternoon before dinner with them and grandma.

That ‘Little Demon’ cartoon that scared Big Mike Johnson sounds interesting. I certainly hope it’s theme song is performed by Screaming Jay Hawkins.

I need more cheesability in my life. I want to be able to use it to answer the question "What's your super power?"

Sometimes I find working in tech to be frustrating. Today, for example, where I am on the second day of no access to servers that need to provide code updates to, and one that I need to check to confirm that it has data for billing processes, which run on Friday, which appears to be the day known as tomorrow, and is approximately 24 hours away (the portion of Friday that I care about, that is. I don't give a fuck about Friday pre-7am). But hey, at least I can wait patiently here while my eyes vibrate and my teeth buzz and my brain tries to find just one thing to focus on in its entirety and I can regret being honest about my last prescription not being strong enough.
