Ta, Robyn. Darling husband Meccalopolis and I consume no animal products (meat, fish, dairy, eggs), preferring vegan equivalents for all of the above. We buy local organic produce whenever possible, and are growing some of our own this year after the success of our experimental food garden last summer. Our potato plants (Yukon Gold) are growing indoor with sunlight, and thus far some of them are 8" high. We also get remarkably good NY state grown grain (best polenta ever!) and we love making things like beans and lentils from scratch. During his couple of days up here at the start of his spring break (I was refused the time off), he finished the stock concentrate, so we have the makings of stews, soups, gravies, etc. whenever we want. Not everyone has such luxury.

And Trump is upset that the EU won't buy our food. Seems odd, to continue to adulterate our food and then complain nobody wants it - and then remove the agencies that are tasked with insuring our food is safe to eat. We will probably go back to adding chalk and water to milk to stretch it because RFK Jr. is living in the early 19th century as far as medical and food practices go.

Even in the early 19th century no one drank any significant amounts of raw milk. Milkmaids would boil the milk after getting it from cows, separate out the milk fats to make butter and cream, and let the rest cool before serving.

Good, scary piece, Robin. It would be great to know what legal actions food safety advocates are taking to stop the madness. Thanks!

I’ve had food poisoning, including a bout that put me in the hospital for three days. I’m probably gonna be a lot more particular about what I eat going forward.

That *does* sound like an experiment Dr WormBrain could get behind, however.

And, no, not eating the spinach is not a better choice...

Every now and then, I come across someone who still believes Brain Worm Bobby is going to bad red dye no. 3 and other food additives. They obviously are not paying attention.

Though I’m sure all 20,000 of those people fired were D.E.I. hires taking jobs that rightfully belong to white men.

One of the things Mad Lord Yam has whined about is that Canada doesn't buy 'enough' dairy from the US. Do you know why we don't buy much dairy from the US? Because even BEFORE this idiocy, American food standards mostly aren't as high as ours, and we'd prefer not to risk illness just so a few Wisconsin farmers can make Shitler look good to Repug donors.

Raised a German in Milwaukee...raw beef, rye bread and onions were a staple at family gatherings, so my immune system is probably more resistant to the awfulness that is to come.

I don't see what the big deal is. Just stop eating for the next few years and you should be able to avoid any of our increasingly common food-borne ailments. Not only will you look absolutely fabulous come swimsuit season, but you'll save a fortune in food costs. Or, if you'd rather eat before 2029 or so, shop at Canada.

I am not a fan of glyphosate, not so much for the reasons commonly cited as much as it is associated with aggressive monopoly capitalism in agriculture, as well as monoculture and damage to farm workers and other organisms. I pay extra for organic, which doesn't use that, and it results in healthier soils that are more sustainable. Notably, prior to 1940 all US agriculture was organic, or close to it.

Glyphosate (sold commercially as Roundup) STERILIZES soil. That's right, kills all the soil-borne organisms that help make healthy soil, as well as keeping it from erosion. Tom Vilsack (D-Monsanto) can suck my taint (figuratively, and with a dental dam).

I don't like it, but I keep it in the shed. If I don't get to an elm shoot or Virginia Creeper in time, I can't kill them any other way. Very precisely targeted, and only a few drops, don't want it drifting on anything I don't want dead, or in the soil.
