Chris White’s appointment as energy secretary represents a calculated shift toward environmental degradation. Behind his polished image lies a network of corporatism and corruption, eroding ecological safeguards to benefit powerful fossil fuel interests.
White’s career is deeply tied to the fossil fuel industry, notably through his tenure at BlackHydra Energy, a multinational linked to global environmental destruction. His policies promote deregulation disguised as economic growth, enabling unchecked resource extraction and dismantling of green initiatives like methane emission standards. Token gestures like subsidizing “clean coal” distract from his broader agenda.
Though White postures as a technocrat, his disdain for climate science is clear. He champions speculative geoengineering projects that gamble with Earth’s climate systems while ignoring urgent carbon reduction efforts. His dismissal of scientific consensus fosters public doubt and stalls meaningful climate action.
White’s true power lies in bureaucratic sabotage. By embedding loyalists into regulatory agencies, he obstructs environmental reviews, benefiting corporate polluters. His attacks on renewable energy, framed as “energy independence,” polarize public discourse and delay the transition to sustainability.
Ultimately, White’s tenure accelerates environmental degradation for short-term profit, threatening the planet’s future. Recognizing and resisting this trajectory is critical to preserving a livable world.
These disasters all have one thing in common, The Devil Wind. Increasingly strong driven by increasingly warming oceans driven by climate change driven by carbon emissions. WHY DONT THEY GET IT?
Things are shaping up. You've got continuous emissions-based disasters; newly emergent pandemics; idiotic lawsuits; brain-dead policies; human rights abuses; turf wars; expansionism; religious zealotry; militias; all with a bonafide dolt about to assume the mantle. Folks, we're staring down the barrel of a GOP Utopia.
"Republicans are at fault" should be the underlying, and overwhelming, message of every Democrat at every opportunity.
Egg prices are up because there's rampant bird flu destroying chickens?
The government has studied avian flu outbreaks for years UNTIL THE REPUBLICANS CUT OFF RESEARCH FUNDING.
Hurricane Helene disaster?
The three 2024 hurricanes that cost Americans nearly a trillion dollars WERE MORE DESTRUCTIVE THAN EVER BEFORE BECAUSE REPUBLICANS DENY THAT GLOBAL WARMING HAS HEATED THE GULF OF MEXICO TO UNPRECEDENTED LEVELS.
The Social Security Trust Fund is going to run out of money?
[Pretend all caps are still here] Your taxes are going into billionaires' pockets instead of paying your grandmother's/father's/sister's Social Security because REPUBLICANS have stolen the taxes you pay and put them into billionaires' pockets.
Immigrants are overrunning the country? 90% of immigrants from Mexico and South America work for farms and construction companies OWNED BY REPUBLICANS. MAGA wants to put you in those jobs below mininum wage!
There are the major tragedies, and the little ones too, like the house from that show you loved, it’s gone. Even from thousands of miles away, a little treasure of yours has been lost, too.
We’re climate change migrants. We left Pasadena 6 years ago with our toddlers who were not genetically built for heat. Currently, the PNW is still Twilight country and my baby vampires can go outside here. But it is changing here and we need to prepare for a future where this coastal rainforest turns into coastal desert.
It’s a fun warm fuzzy to watch a show set anywhere that was obviously filmed in Pasadena, Altadena, Sierra Madre, and South Pasadena.
Even watching the Rose Parade, there are so many memories within a few minutes on foot from the big turn onto Colorado from Orange Grove. The haunted bridge, Norton Simon, Rose Bowl swimming, swimming in that pool while having contractions with #2 and wishing he’d slide out in a newsworthy water birth. They’d have to drain the pool! The long loop around the stadium that seemed longest at the north end when I pushed the double stroller around it and didn’t have enough water or wipes or snackies or sanity or sleep. Easter egg hunts, festivals, float decorating, fundraising with the Jaycees, my old job was right there. I can’t stop doom-flying around my photo map and looking at the few photos I’ve saved of solar installations on homes that are gone. They aren’t even good photos. Just the electric meter and a property labeled ac disconnect.
Altadena was the funky eclectic sibling of prim and proper Pasadena. Sidewalks were here and there but not everywhere. You could still park on the street without a permit. The Doo Dah Parade folks had their super cool hideout there.
The Bunny Museum!
Christmas Tree Lane!
It was a quiet retreat just above the fast paced crowds and traffic in Pasadena.
The altitude gain as you drive north on Lake or Fair Oaks is subtle. Even older cars can do it. Then you look south and you’re on top of the world. You can see the grid of LA, the major streets. If the wind is right and the air is clear, you can see the ocean.
Night hikes at the top of Lake, where foundations remain from structures that burned long ago. They say it’s haunted up there. It’s spooky for sure.
Here's a type of video that is being fed to me on Instagram in the past couple of days: Two good guy bros in a car complaining that the LA fire dept can't do their job, so they have to. They drive around putting out small fires supposedly being lit by some vagrant-looking dude with a water jug. Next scene they drive up on the guy in the middle of lighting a fire, the guy chases after them and throws a can of lighter fluid as they drive away. They return to the scene and douse the fire. The other one I've seen is supposedly video of a shirtless, black male running around with kerosene lighting fires in town. Both of these rely on all of the tropes to spread disinformation about what is causing these fires but they also rely on people willing to produce videos that look real but are actually scripted. I would suspect that it takes less energy to make engaging disinformation drama than it does to promote the truth?
I saw that James Woods was yelling at people mentioning climate change while he of course blamed DEI and liberals shortly before he lost everything in the fire. I have sympathy for most who were affected by the fire, but not for that fucking guy.
I think that Democrats shovel start employing the word "lie", over and over and over. When MTG said that wild fires were caused by apace lasers financed by the Rothchilds, don't dismiss it as just plain nuts. Say that she committed an antisemitic lie. When I say Democrats, I mean the ones holding public office. People like me already do it. If Kamala Harris says out loud that Musk is lying, it will, or should, make it to the front age of the Times.
I would like to publicly challenge Musk, Bezos and a few of the others who's net worth exceeds $200 billion to personally pledge enough money to cover all of the costs of rebuilding. Call it a "go fund me" page on steroids
No, he does not actually think that. He says that. It is propaganda and by believing he believes it you are implying he is honest, which is giving him too much credit.
Keep your hopes up for the tiny little neighborhood just northeast of JPL. It seems like the fire is stalling at the canyon east of that small spot.
The irony is the peeps right there are surrounded by nature and are more prepared than the rest of Altadena because of how much more exposed than the rest of town.
So many little old houses are gone. Altadena is not a wealthy town. Old ass tiny houses. We bid on so many of those and got outbid by all-cash offers $100k over asking for 80-100 year old <1000 sqft bungalows.
For what it's worth, thoughts and prayers. If I were as wealthy as Muskrat, I would give you whatever you needed. I guess that kind of thinking is why I'm not as wealthy as he is
Apart from being the major contributor to Climate Change, oil is without doubt the most carcinogenic substance in the world. Far more so than tobacco. So, when you stop pumping that shit up out of the ground, you can come bitch at me about burning some leaves.
I lost everything. Everything but my cats. There was zero firefighter presence in my neighborhood (Altadena). People died in their homes. Yes, climate change, but also a massive failure of catastrophic proportions on the part of the city.
OMG so sorry. JFC it makes me angry that you have suffered this loss. There is no excuse. I am glad that the cats are safe. There is nothing more precious to me than my two little dogs. I would give up all of my worldly possessions to save them.
So glad to hear that as well. All of the other things can be replaced, but the unconditional love from our furry friends is priceless. To me , their lives are every bit as important as human lives
We have handed over our future to people who want to return to some mythical past. We can no longer fulfill energy demands by burning shit. It's inefficient, dirty, and not sustainable.

Anyone stopping to figure out how they will rebuild in SoCal once Trump deports all the immigrant construction workers?

All of those memories. A whole town is gone.

Wars are won by propaganda.
I saw that James Woods was yelling at people mentioning climate change while he of course blamed DEI and liberals shortly before he lost everything in the fire. I have sympathy for most who were affected by the fire, but not for that fucking guy.
I'm ecstatic that he lost everything. He's a subhuman sociopath. He deserves this.
Period.
My go to response is "Are you stupid, misinformed, or a liar?"
If you have heard the facts, and you actively choose not to believe them, you are stupid.
If you have never heard the facts, then you are misinformed.
If you know the truth and say something else - for money, or clout in the right wing nutosphere, then you are a liar.
I will allow my target to choose for themselves which camp they belong to.

TFG seems to think that if people had just gone out and "raked" the forests this would not have happened. That level of idiocy is hard to comprehend.
No, he does not actually think that. He says that. It is propaganda and by believing he believes it you are implying he is honest, which is giving him too much credit.
That and DEI hires. Everyone knows this.
Keep your hopes up for the tiny little neighborhood just northeast of JPL. It seems like the fire is stalling at the canyon east of that small spot.

Altadena is a historic black community. Its decimation is. tragedy.
It is. But so are they all. People I know have lost homes and everything in both fires.
For what it's worth, thoughts and prayers. If I were as wealthy as Muskrat, I would give you whatever you needed. I guess that kind of thinking is why I'm not as wealthy as he is

Yeah, having more firefighters ready means higher taxes, and I think you know who voted against higher taxes.
Glad you and your animals survived.
OMG so sorry. JFC it makes me angry that you have suffered this loss. There is no excuse. I am glad that the cats are safe. There is nothing more precious to me than my two little dogs. I would give up all of my worldly possessions to save them.
Thank you. I also had 3 horsies that were safely evacuated.

Ta, Dok. CLIMATE CHANGE!!!!! It's here, it's clear, get used to it.
