And here I thought it was gubmint men already on our heroine's trail. Although given the bounty laws in Texas, jilted would-be boyfriend might be worse.
I love it when the bad guy's arrogance proves to be their biggest downfall. You followed *Lorinda all the way down to Austin, for hours, and now you're going to just assume she's visiting someone and take a fucking nap? Okay, pal.
I'm really, really digging this book! Scary AF at times, but that's just because it's so creepily prescient. Excellent work, gentlemen!
ETA: I originally wrote Lorraine, another badass character from Fargo season 5, whoops! Easy mistake.
I wonder how long a country like the CCSA would stay together. Given what's going on with the GOP today, and what generally happens with ideologies that reward fanaticism, it seems like further fragmentation would be inevitable. Without a strong central leader, when you get more than one definition of ideological purity, or when some version thereof clashes with some group's traditions, you either carve out exceptions or states threaten to peel away. Christianity alone is pretty schismatic -- add to that the various factions in today's right wing, and strip them of a common enemy, and they're reduced to fighting amongst themselves. Same goes for the old CSA as well as the USA under the Articles of Confederation -- without strong central power, it won't last.
Not to mention the rest of the world stepping in to claim pieces of it for themselves. China would like California please. I think Russia would be satisfied with the parts of the East Coast that England and France did not claim for themselves...
There was a giant 8 story planned parenthood in Houston. That’s a couple hours closer to Louisiana than Austin. Not sure if this is the classic Northern’s mistake of thinking Austin is the only cool (blue) place in Texas. But not even close.
Fun read overall. I’m just tired of misinformation about the state. Houston is twice as big, and much more diverse. Beyoncé. Lizzie. Blues rather than Country. And Zydeco!
Another great chapter and I love the writing! I'm actively looking forward to each installment every week and this one is just a bit more nightmare fuel—the scariest thing is that one can actually SEE this happening if the religious far-right get their way. Considering how close US democracy is to the precipice, it's scary as fuck.
I find myself thoroughly absorbed in this ongoing story. The onerous parallels between the story line and our current darkly divided reality are all too entirely tangible.

I'm surprised the people in the country are even allowed to vote.
Geez, Lorinda, they put rear view mirrors in cars for a reason, and it’s not touching up your mascara.
Jeepers creepers, truly frightening.
Uh oh...

Russia would have a good claim for Northern California....
Oh, and Mexico would surround Tejas...

Ryonbong and Zhiguli - is there some significance to these vehicle names beyond the CCSA not being able to get contracts with Ford, Honda, etc.?
Never mind, old Russian and North Korean models.
Great question, I've been wondering about the vehicle makes/models myself.
Brad's a stalker, not so surprising as it turns out.

"Jesus, in the CCSA, was a cross between a founding father and a beloved pop star."
Wow, this really isn't fiction, is it?
