Batton Rouge Louisiana.

It was a trading post before Europeans arrived. The spot was marked by a red baton ( a post ) that was stuck in the ground. It was painted red to identify it.

The color also said, no bloodshed.a trading post was the place to transact trade, not to fight. Blood is to be shed elsewhere.

a Post was a cudgel-free zone.!
