I think I just took my first step toward adulthood: I gave the smoked salmon that had gotten lost at the back of the fridge a few weeks ago a sniff test before adding it to my breakfast rather than just relying on a visual inspection. It did not pass the test, and I feel much more like an adult today.
I have a bunch of navy beans because I needed dried beans to fill a display version of an early-19th century meat pie, and I bought too many, so now I'm going to make navy bean soup and I don't care what season it is.
