They sure as hell don't pay him enough, and the health insurance through the union in our state might not even fully pay out for every bullet he might have to get pulled out. If they won't pay for in-person mental health counseling, I doubt they'd pay for more than five bullets getting removed from his torso.

Once again, we need gun owner control not gun control. Trying to ban certain firearms will just lead to unending arguments over what should be banned. Rather. All gun owners or operators should be licensed and all firearms registered with strict protocols for ownership transfers, This in no way infringes upon your right to keep and bear arms, no more than libel and slander laws infringe upon your freedom of expression or ordinances against live animal sacrifice infringe upon your freedom to practice the religion of your choice. Not in it's wording nor in it's intent does the Second Amendment say ":Everybody has the right to own a gun" NO way NO how! No rights are absolute and with rights come responsibilities. I would think that all sane people could understand that.
Gun insurance in the same way we have car insurance. No liability insurance, then no gun.
I would prefer an outright ban on civilian ownership of military-style weapons, including by police and other civilian law enforcement organizations. This is a government of the People, by the People, for the People, not a fucking police state.
Did they at least do something about that ridiculous setup where the school district has its own force of police who apparently are trained to do nothing while children are under armed attack?

Well, if they can show Hunter Biden's dick pics in Congress, surely they can show videos of the carnage left by AR-15s and other assault weapons that are used in a mass shooting. It's not so much getting members of Congress seeing this, but all of the public seeing it.
We see anti-abortion groups showing photos of what they claim are aborted fetuses (but may be miscarriages) thinking this may horrify people. Maybe the parents of the little girl with no face Gutierrez mentions could give permission to send a photo of that little girl to every NRA member. Like Emmett Till's mother did when she had an open casket funeral showing how her 14 year old son was beaten, tortured, and killed by racists in 1950s Mississippi. A state where the white population does not seem to have changed since then.

Texas is purple. It should be a swing state. But the people in power are never going to relinquish it. People don't vote because they're being discouraged to vote. And if they do vote it is likely that Texas will not count it. It's not fair. It's not supposed to be. The Republicans in Texas are out there on the fringe because they answer to no one.
At present about 40% of the voting population of Texas is located in urban area which are very heavily Blue. This number is increasing so if people get out and VOTE, Texas may actually become Blue in the not too distant future
Since we can't have both Gutierrez and Allred in the Senate, how 'bout one of them run for a house seat? Seems like that might be a doable win in a district containing Uvalde.

You have more or less described gun ownership in Germany. You can do it if you are willing to comply with reasonable requirements for owning a deadly weapon. I did all of the above because I had a rifle and two handguns when I moved here. I put up with that for a couple of years then gave all of them to a rod and gun club and turned in my license. I feel no less safe without them.
I have guns. I enjoy shooting every now and then. Lost my appetite for killing anything some time ago, so I no longer hunt, but it's an acquired skill I still have if I need to use it
