There Is Another Gay One In The Olympics And He Says Trump And Pence Can Eat Yellow Snow Too
There is Olympics still happening! Last night (at least it was last night on our TVs, because PyeongChang is located in the "over theres" section of the world) American Mikaela Shiffrin nabbed gold in the giant slalom, and Aliona Savchenko and Bruno Massot of Germany kicked unholy ass in the pairs free skate, coming back from fourth after the short program, to win their very own gold medal. The Americans didn't really factor into that competition, so we were free to be SO EXCITED for them, especially Savchenko, who has been to five Olympics and finally got her gold. Tonight, the men's skating starts, which means we can all yell and cheer for our boyfriend Adam Rippon, peace be upon him.
Speaking of Rippon, did you know there is ANOTHER openly gay American Olympian, and that he ALSO thinks Donald Trump and Mike Pence can pound sand and go take a hike and eat a piping hot flagon of yellow snow? It is Gus Kenworthy, and he is a freestyle skier who won a silver medal in Sochi!
Kenworthy spoke to "CBS This Morning" about how much Trump and Pence suck. His comments come toward the end of this video, in response to a question about whether he'd like to go to the White House after the Olympics:
No. I mean, when we have people elected into office that believe in conversion therapy and are trying to strip trans rights in the military, and do these things that are directly attacking the LGBT community, I have no patience. I am so proud to be from the US, and to be from a country where you are able to voice your political opinions and stand up for what you believe in, and I think that when you have a platform, you have to use it, especially when you feel strongly about something.
That settles that!
The entire video is worth watching, as Kenworthy talks about why he came out, how difficult it was to do in his sport, but how important he realized it is to be open, especially for the example it sets for kids at home who are struggling for acceptance. Because of that, he says coming out (on the cover of ESPN Magazine! ) is "the most important thing I've ever done."
Speaking of important things Kenworthy has done, besides being an Olympic medalist and coming out as an athlete, you might remember him as the guy who led a group of Olympians in 2014 to adopt the stray dogs who were a constant presence at the Sochi Winter Olympics. By the way, those dogs are all doing great and you can follow them on Instagram. Here is a picture of Kenworthy with his Sochi dawg:
And here's a video of Gus Kenworthy taking off his shirt for some sort of good cause, we don't know:

Awwwwwwww.
Watch for Gus Kenworthy on the slopes this weekend, and probably in your dreams later tonight, we know how you are.
