Might be a bit difficult to find MDs willing to ignore the "do no harm" part of the Hippocratic Oath. Not impossible (we're talking Oklahoma here), but I'm enough of an optimist to think it might be difficult.

Doesn't even have to be biased . . . the system cannot be made foolproof. The horrifying story of Cameron Willingham (Texas, of course) should be reason enough to stop the insanity.

Yeah, well, just think of the bloodthirsty assholes who'd run for the office, if you made that one of the perks. The cretins they elect now are bad enough as it is.

Too grisly -- they'd risk turning the public against the death penalty. You want them to think it's all neat and clean, or better yet, not to think about it at all.

Actually, they found it a while ago, but couldn't resist the temptation to prank CNN.

I don't even give her credit for being bloodthirsty. She's just willing to kill, literally, for votes. She's just as repulsive as Gov. Goodhair on that score.

Oh, good . . . somebody who can sort the "definitely guilty" from the "probably guilty". You're just what the system needs.

And I take rat poison. It's all in the dose.

I supported the death penalty until a few years ago because there seemed to be some people who were just so horrible they "deserved" it. But as I educated myself more and more about it, I came to believe what many of our commenters and Lisa are saying. We cheapen ourselves and our nation when we do this, or allow it to be done in our names. And there seems to be little doubt that we have executed the innocent. So what makes us better than the murderers who are condemned for killing innocents?

How about we let Mary Fallin carry out the executions going forward? She seems the type to enjoy the whole process.

I'm reading in other places that it wasn't actually doctors, but prison employees without medical training...

The line between us and the people that commit these horrendous crimes is getting too slim.

In addition to preventing breathing (the victim suffocates when the diaphagm can't move air in and out of the lungs), vercuronium bromide is supposed to paralyze the victim, so you can't see that he's in pain. (All that thrashing and moaning just gets the bleeding heart liberals upset.) That's obviously the one they messed up. The potassium eventually did its job, so it all worked out fine in the end, right?
