That word "compote" --- does it rhyme with "blot" or "bloat?"

The happiest of trips around the sun to you CAKES!!! Also a huge standing ovation on the completion of your degree wuth honors! I'm going to try this one in a couple of weeks, I have guests coming who are always game for me trying something new, the kind of guests one longs for.

My dear mum made a pork pie at Christmas, she said it was very Quebecoise- certainly that's the part of the family it came down through. As a vegetarian, it is the one dish I still feel a little wistful when I think of it.

Ta, Cakes. I hope you saw my birthday blessing; if not, I'll repeat it here. Happy birthday. May your next trip around the sun bless you with love, health, peace, grace, abundance, prosperity, integrity, longevity, laughter, tears, friendship, courage, compassion, creativity, community, and joy. 🌺

Congratulations on your degree, with honors (of course you would write honours). Well done!

You're talented too. I wouldn't have the first idea how to row a boat, and you practiced law.

I can give you that one for November, I bake one for Cakes Jr's birthday every year.

I may already have done that one though, I'll have to check the archives.

I tend to make a more extravagant version for my daughter's birthday: 2 or 3 layers, filled with creme diplomat and fresh strawberries, topped with Chantilly cream, more strawberries, chocolate cutls/sprinkles, and chocolate ganache and/or salted caramel.

Hey Cakes, congratulations on getting your degree (with honors!)!!!

I used to live near Ponchatoula, Louisiana, where they have a strawberry festival once a year, in mid April. They would take large strawberries and dip them in fritter batter, then fry them in hot oil for about 15 seconds, then dip them in whatever you liked...powdered sugar, chocolate, brown sugar, nuts, etc. They were to die for! There was also a strawberry cake/pie baking contest, with some very creative entries, but I think YOUR cake would get First Prize!
