Sadly, I think there are going to be a lot of food products heading the same way for you Americans. I wish there was something I could do to help, but I'm just one person, and not even an American.
Ta, Cakes. I've been doing a lot of baking since we were gifted the KitchenAid stand mixer -- our first wedding present. Meccalopolis's birthday cake was amazingly good. And I love making bread, pizza, and more. He bought me the beginner bread baking book you recommended. No baking this weekend; we're in the city. I'm making dinner soonish.
$7.49 a dozen at key food last week.. gawd knows how much it's increased this week. and now add in the bird flu that's resulting in millions more being killed.
2 items: have you heard of this "lemon brownie" thing? Am I the last person on earth?? Well, I plan to make them. Super simple. And maybe a graham cracker crust added. Thoughts, advice?
Also, and too: looking at semifreddo. Lemon, naturally, *theme, here, yes* and dark choc.
Second: in the parlance of you lot, I ought to have called you a *STAR*, for that is what you *ARE*
I've not heard of lemon brownies before, I'll have to have a look for a recipe. In theory, they should be lovely, and adding a Graham cracker crust sounds delicious. I think your Graham crackers are possibly similar to a delicacy we call a Hob Nob (oaty biscuit/cookie) or possibly a Digestive biscuit (made with wheat rather than oats, we use them for cheesecake bases).
Ahhhh, I see. I did not know you don't have them. Of course, shortbread makes everything better, too. Just. Plain. Damn. Short, Buttery, Shortbread. They offer it to you on a huge platter, when you get to Heaven, btw.
A bit of good, sort of sad, news. The Nicaraguan family that's been here (legally) for 3 years has made it back to Nicaragua with their wee American-born infant. They were terrified of spending time in their apartment and so were living with some locals here. I'm happy they are safe. I'm beyond depressed that it was necessary for them to leave in this way. (And I am one of the godparents of the wee one)
I don't like chocolate. I was allergic to it when I was little, so I think I just didn't get a taste for it. A couple of times a year I want a plain chocolate brownie, but that's about it.
I love cats but I'm allergic to them too.

Trump is still on about Canada becoming the 51st state. He is claiming without the "subsidies" the US pays it, Canada would not be a viable country.
I have said a lot of negative things about US Presidents in my life, but at least they all appeared, publicly at least, to have accepted that other countries exist independent of the US.
The other day I thought I'd broken the heating by some clumsy pressing of buttons, so I left it and hoped it would fix itself (or someone else would while I was out).
That appears to have happened, and I have just been able to grant myself the gift of Pyjamas Left On The Radiator For A While for the first time this year, and oh god it's good.
I had to learn this the hard way a number of years ago: if you turn your HVAC from AC to heat quickly, something happens that shorts out one of the parts and prevents the furnace from working. As you can tell, I am an expert.
But eggs and chocolate are now eleventy million dollars.

Lava cakes are my favorite, and I don't usually care for a lot of chocolate. :D
I have never heard chocolate say mean things about you.
katharine hepburn brownies...

i bought ramikins specifically to do stuff like this and when they arrived they weren't oven proof dammit - gonna have to try again
EIGHT EGGS!!! Do you think eggs grow on TREES???
I agree with everything they say about chocolate.
Where am I supposed to find EIGHT eggs?!

LOL, I'm about to go pick up at least 2 doz, probably 3, since I'm going to bake stuff.
Maybe I should go armed.
With, like, a garden tool. We don't have firearms, we are sufficiently scary and angry and we have a giant dog, anyway. So.
CAKES!

I love a fairly simple dessert that relies on excellent ingredients - I do a mousse that's made with that idea in mind.
Your post was beautifully written and with some history too! What a lovely way to end a Sunday.
Can't be a history student and leave out the history. That would be against the rules.
I do enjoy combining my love of history and food, and I'm glad everyone here seems to enjoy it too.
Musk:
“USAID is a criminal organization,” Musk wrote on X, the social network that he owns. “Time for it to die.”
Guys, we are at war, and we're sort of helpless RN.
This is fubar. He's not even choosing his words carefully.
I worry about everyone's next SS check, and everything else.

Republicans have been salivating over S.S. since its inception. Don’t piss off the senior citizens!

I hope you can enjoy bacon…
I now have the desire to make brownies with flakes of crispy bacon as a topping.
Oh, man: cats, too?!!
***you have messg!***
I'm not really allergic to my parents' cat, weirdly. I mean, I wouldn't bury my face in her fur or let her lick me, but it's not that bad!
Spam text: "I'm making phad thai and green curry this evening. Would love for you to come by if you have the time!"
Now THAT is some expert catfishing.
lol. Still not going. I usually reply with a link to the FTC. https://www.ftc.gov/. Never hear from them again.
I love you, and this whole fucking post, CakesWe.
You're a good egg.

"Subsidies." I see he still hasn't figured out what a trade deficit is yet.
Hahaha!!
"I put tariffs on you! Join us and No More Tariffs!"
what a putz
Like the Kingdom of Hawaii?
