I just took this out of the oven and made the holes to pour the drizzle on. Very much looking forward to this cake that I didn't have to veganize! Okay, the cake is now drizzled and darling husband Meccalopolis just walked in the door with our ramps for frittata. I did have to make our own self-rising flour, and since we don't keep white flour in our kitchen, I used organic King Arthur white whole wheat flour, and coconut sugar. Apart from that, I followed the recipe and the whole place is fragrant with lemon cake. Cheers, CakesWeLike.
Great post, Cakes. I may have to try this one as "not a baker" is on my cv but this one may be in reach.
You may want to reach out to the "Lemon Drizzle Gang" on youtube as they seem like a good bunch of blokes riding about on old motorbikes looking for lemon drizzle cake.
I had a weird night’s sleep, where I felt like I was conscious all night long, even when I was dreaming. That might be partly why I’m in the state of mind I find myself in today. I feel like I’m right on the edge of a panic attack. Did a load of laundry. Cleaned up around the upstairs litter boxes. That’s pretty much it. I had some important things to get done today, but so far it’s not happening.
I must confess that I am not a tea drinker. Cakes Jr is the tea fiend in this house.
I do enjoy a curry though, although I prefer mine in the mild-medium range when it comes to heat. I wonder if you might manage a mild version of a tikka masala, or a korma that's heavy on the cream and light on the spice? I used to cook all my curries extra mild for Cakes Jr's sake, she's grown out of that phase now and has decided she likes extra heat in everything, much to my annoyance.
You know what’s really fun? It’s really fun to pretend that you don’t know the social norms, and that you’re missing the cues people display to let you know how horrified they are with you for putting lemon in your tea rather than milk.
Think of it more as being put out of your misery. Mercy killing.
I told y'all about this car a few days ago--the back and sides are covered in stickers for Black Lives Matter, and Hippie Chicks Rule, and Coexist, and the equality symbol, and all that--sure, tacky to cover the sides and all with all that, but okay. BUT the hood has a bunch of RFK jr 8x10 pictures with "Imagine--but I'm not the only one" on them GLUED to the car, and a picture of Elon made up like a god, and then trump and his whole gang as superheroes (trump as Captain America). I was going to take a picture but the driver's either asleep or passed out in the driver's seat. I'm waiting for the freak to leave before I do, because they're parked right outside my work's front door and since it's the weekend almost nobody seems to be around.
This is a lovely recipe! Our thanks to Cakes and her family of taste testers. And, Yorkshire Gold is my tea of choice. It can be found in the colonies, but I suspect the prices will be going up very soon. (I have a stock, of course)
Just tried this recipe for my book group meeting. Even the non vegans had second helpings. Thanks for sharing!

Omg yum I need to try my hand at this!
Seconding the recommendation for Yorkshire Gold. Bracing! Thanks so much for the recipe <3
you can make your own self-rising flour, you know....
This is the first thing I'm making when I have a working oven again.
Hmm...could this maybe be made with other types of citrus? Like orange, lime, or grapefruit instead of the lemon? Anyone have any thoughts? 🤔
It would definitely work with orange. I'm not a fan of grapefruit, so that's definitely not one I'd attempt.

I'm so happy to see a Cakes We Like post! Cake is truly one of the foundations of Wonkette along with cedar cheese (which may actually be vegan -)
I think it's nice that vegan get dessert too.

Here are some cats, who have their own drama going, except for that cinnamon roll. https://substack.com/profile/1687878-1d57a1d5931d/note/c-108513128?utm_source=notes-share-action&r=106di
"*Please note that in the UK it is considered a serious crime to make a cup of tea in the microwave."
How serious a crime is it if you don't like tea? I mean, are we talking jail time or execution?
Remember when t-bag usage was a hanging offense?
Most of us will just stare at you in abject horror. Some of us would happily have you executed.
I would *like* to like tea, the usual sort, but it eats through my historically ulcer-ridden stomach. But I can do herbal and rooibos and such.
I also do not eat curry. Will I be turned away at customs for this, next time?
I love F & C, though!!!! I can make a great chicken & leek pie and even toad in the hole!!
ALSO: my lemon cheese is fabulous, I swear.

I eat hot Mexican, but always with dairy on the side when needed to put out the fire; the flavors of most Indian food I just naahhh.
I could put away some rotis though.
It's mostly about the samosas and onion bhajis for me. And naan bread.
A good garlic naan is a fine thing.

George Orwell on the making of tea:

He forgets to let the tea steep for a few minutes, though.....

I still have all of my democrat stickers on my vehicle. I'm leaving them on until the country regains it sanity.
YIKES.
Probably just a homeless person looking for a place to sleep, and they figured they wouldn’t be bothered in that one.
Get way out there on the fringes never know who you'll run into.
