Tourtierre is still found hereabouts, and salmon pie. I might make them for company, but almost never for myself. I need to step ip my game! My mother’s steak and kidney pie was glorious, but I can’t find beef or lamb kidney anywhere.
Sausage rolls are the best. I make them during the holidays. Freeze them, and then pop them out regularly, reheat in the oven, and munch down for breakfast. But I'm much lazier. A lb of Jimmy Dean Sage Sausage, chopped onion, and chopped apple. Puff Pastry, egg brush, and poppy seeds. They seem to turn out pretty well.

147 Parnell Street, Dublin, Ireland. Am I exaggerating the amazingness? I am not. I would commit actual murder for these sausage rolls. And I'd normally draw the line at murder, like.
I guess it's inevitable: I grew up a bit of a champion Irish dancer, it was expected we'd go there at some point to compete, but I've not made it, yet!
Pity that we can't post the original shopping list with "cakes we like" because it's LOL funny. I'm an old timer here but the newbies likely have no idea about that term's origin which appears now and again.
I've made a few attempts at sausage rolls, this is the most recent- good Italian sausage with added seasoning, caramelized onions, and mushrooms. They were yummy.
always wanted to try to flambee a dish, but could never figure out how to do it safely as i don't have a gas stove to tip a pan on, and the cover over the stove is rather low. then one day i took my fireplace lighter/long flamey-stick/call-it-what-you-will, held the pan over the sink, and went poof! as i recall, it was for beef wellington, and it seemed to me that one ought to make the effort for beef wellington.
(when doing this, one must be certain to retain a safe perimeter from flammable items on the counter and/or the crocheted cafe curtain that took 6 weeks to make with a very tiny tiny crochet hook, only to have one's sister marvel that it must have taken an Indonesian lady a very long time to make. i said that i had done it and nearly gone blind in the process.)
it's how i was originally taught, by the little old ladies at church on friday activity night when i was 6. i never took it back up until i was in my twenties, and then i used visible crochet hooks and real yarn. :)
but then for some reason, i decided i needed a cafe curtain in the kitchen. you'd think i would have just whipped something up on my sewing machine, FFS!
That looks doable to me, and I love anything like a meat pie. Cornish pasties are something I sometimes make, and this looks way easier. Thanks!
I do love a Cornish pasty. Or anything with pastry really. I did a Cornish pasty recipe last year(?). That was a fun recipe to write up.

They look tasty, but I could not make these with a gun to my head and my life depending on it.
Store bought puff really is a cheat code!
You probably could, it's actually really simple as long as you use store bought pastry.

So, we are at the end of the rainy season, soon to be high season (when the tourists show up). But we still get storms like this. It rained like this for about 1.5 hours. https://substack.com/profile/5870326-appalachian-in-thailand/note/c-71656469?r=3htkm

I... this... want to go there now.
Just to remind you that there isn't anything we won't shove Vegemite into!

FYI - I liked the word “Linky”!!
I wonder what the British influence was on the Polish/Canadian delicacy that is cabbage rolls.

Life is too short. Go to 147 Deli on Parnell Street and buy the closest a sausage roll ever got to crack cocaine instead. Om nom nom.
Where in the world is this??

"I could mrrrrrrderrrrr a plate o' ham and eggs", 'Talk of Angels', starring Polly Walker, I think, and some other fine actresses.
I don't think I know this play/film? Anyhoo, should you ever be in the Fair City, get you down to Parnell Street for the best sausage roll.

I will certainly remember. Go raibh maith agat 🥰

It turned up a day or so ago on this very mommy-blog:

Got it saved, I do.
It was posted on Oct 4 on a Dok Zoom article!

this looks good, Cakes, and deserves a tryout. I'm on it!
Ravens TD… panicky man with a bucket.

I use a tiny tiny crochet hook also! Too! I did some crocheting with sewing thread and a number 14 once.
sewing thread, holy crap!
Madness! It worked up nicely.

Got my two jabs on Thursday. Oh bad reaction. The past 3 days have suuuuccckkked!
I usually spike a fever and get chills when I get my COVID booster so I do one at a time so I don’t feel like death warmed over.
Apt description of this moment.
Feel better soon.
At least you've got the full 5G upgrade now though.
You're on fire today with the snark. Nicola.
Hmm, maybe I should have bought that fire blanket last week...
Challenge accepted! But...
1) when you say coin do you mean a US coin or one of those British coins?
2) by my count I'm left with 1 unused tablespoon of balsamic vinegar.
British coin is highly valuable. You can use them in a wishing well without a sense of loss.
Taste test the relish and add more if you feel it needs it.
Old British pound coin.
It would e a lot easier if I could get away with using millimetres as a measurement, it would be 3-5mm in thickness.
Unfortunately, I don't know what the equivalent would be in Bald Eagles/AR15s/Freedom Units.
5mm = a little less than 1/4 inch, 3mm = very close to 1/8 inch.
What's that in Freedom Units?
About 2 stacked nickels, I think :-)
You'll need a pastry caliper.
