Nice earrings! I always notice, as I can't leave the house without all my earrings on. I have some nice ones but Ms. Flanagan can really rock it!

"Oh, now she's Indian, is it? Last week I'm pretty sure she was a blonde lady!"

- a certain PAB, probably

Ta, Robyn. What a Nice Times! And oh, those earrings.

So much good news after so much bad news, And now, THIS! An indigenous person will be governor, a woman, an American in the progressive tradition.

Hate to play the wet blanket, but. This Nov. will be decided by SCOTUS. VP Harris could win the popular by 8 figures for the first time ever and crush the electoral college. But Kamala's "immunity" will be put on hold until trump bestows otherwise.

This is the shit. Phone books will stop rubber bullets.

Get ya some.

Cue the republican attacks of, "She's not really a Native American," and "Pocohontus" because republicans have no other ideas.

BlueSpot's avatar

No reason to bring my grandma into this. Dead for 400 years and the Republicans want to use her as a slur on Native Americans. You know that this means war.

I'm so happy Walz is the VP pick and happy that the Lt. Gov. is a cool woman and that the State Senate President is cool, too. What a contrast to angry people like Trump and Vance.

Does everyone here realize that if we win this the State of District Columbia would be added to the United States of America and we would have 51 Stars on the Flag?

And 102 Senators!

Judge Mental's avatar

We also need to do something about the Pacific Islands and Puerto Rico. They deserve statehood too.

Spleen Victoria's avatar

I was just going to say why stop there!

The G-7 Experience's avatar

the only reason I left PR out is they need to decide that and it is not unanimous at all..

Free beach's avatar

Yeah everything has to line up for that. Sadly.

I can already foresee the deluge of "she's not REALLY indigenous" bullshit coming from Republicans nationwide.

In better news, though, I'm going to need one of those shirts. You know the one.

Also worth noting that the former Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis is now known by its Dakota name, Bde Maka Ska, "Lake White Earth."

Lucius's avatar

Ah yes, I remember all the racist whining about that. As if we haven't learned how to pronounce a bunch of indigenous names already just by existing here.🙄

Zyxomma's avatar

Really. We call it New York now, but combined there are probably way more Native (Lenape here in Mannahatta, hilly island) and Dutch place names in the state than English place names. I 💓 Niew Amsterdaam.

GEM's avatar

We westerners really have stolen so many native names, although every time I drive to Denver I feel all snuggly about the official Mt. Blue Sky sign that replaced the hateful Mt. Evans.

We are way overdue to have a lady governor who is also Indigenous.

WAY overdue

Also her stylist's game is strong

So a bit of background on what the Trump campaign is dealing with on the ground. At the end of last week the Harris campaign announced a campaign rally in Detroit for Aug 7th (tomorrow). Over 24 hrs (last Thursday into Friday) they got 47,000 requests for tickets. 47,000.

2/ That spurred a multi-day search for a new venue that could handle the demand. As Trump never seemed to grasp, crowd sizes don't equal votes. But at that scale they signal enthusiasm and energy and a purchase into the broader popular culture that Biden

3/ never had and that Trump, despite his greater currency on social media, doesn't either. It's that disconnect between the attention currency of the two campaigns that is undoubtedly driving Trump's current meltdown and also leaving his campaign strapped for

options ...

Douglas Emhoff calling Gwen Walz. Welcome to the team, Gwen. I've got your back.

That was ... genuinely sweet.

It's always nice when you get a chance to vote for nice people. I admit, I'm feeling excited -- almost forgotten what that felt like. It's very cool.

From Al Franken

It’s Walz! Pronounced “Walls”. A great choice with an impressive record in Minnesota: making reproductive freedom a right, expanding paid family and medical leave, making school meals for students free. Veteran, teacher, football coach, Congressman, Governor. And he’s not weird!
