My letter to Senator Tillis who wrote me that he is helpless in the face of Trump's predation because countering Trump starts in the House of Representatives: (Well at last he is resigning):

Dear Senator Tillis: In case you haven't noticed, Trump has no use for the House of Representatives, nor the US Constitution, or the rule of law. It is all the rule of Trump, whether it is tearing down trade alliances or government's historical monuments. Like Saddam Hussein or Mao tse Tung, he has to have his picture and name everywhere. Trump is not working with any part of the US Government except siphoning off as much money as he can for his private accounts in Qatar and and anywhere else he can grift.

So, If you think Trump is going to miraculously change tactics to actually help the people of this nation, you are whistling past the graveyard. And that graveyard will be the United States of America. Wake up Senator and quit trying to pass the buck. You are in a high government office, and if you are telling me you are helpless, I look forward to election day when we can replace you and every other Republican office holder for failing their oath and this nation.

Behind every successful repub pol, there is a trail of sleazy dealings that got them to that point, and keep them in office. Democrats need to do some thorough investigating of these turds, find this stuff, and broadcast it throughout the state. Opposition research is our friend here.

Are white voters in Tennessee ever going to be like, "Oh this is going a little too far, time to start voting for Democrats?" Maybe remind them about the groceries and gas too? Or are they just that committed to the Lost Cause?

EyeQueue's avatar

Many many white people seem to just fucking suck ass. Social shredders and haters, the lot of them.

Aileen's avatar

At this point, yes, you truly have to fucking suck to vote Republican.

I feel like burning more shit than a paper flag.

EyeQueue's avatar

IMO, nothing changes until that happens. It's not looking good. :( After this shit, I'm not confident in the midterms like many appear to be.

Pauly2coffees's avatar

But if we concentrate on trying to feel better about how shitty things are and hoping for a miracle, everything will work out in the end.

EyeQueue's avatar

I won't be fooled again. I was fooled at the last election and was kicked in the teeth by that announcement. I won't be optimistic again, sadly.

Pauly2coffees's avatar

It’s completely understandable for people not to want to face the ugly reality we are currently living through, but it’s absolutely necessary that we do, even though it might make us feel uncomfortable.

EyeQueue's avatar

This is true. :(

Baconzgood's avatar

How about the constitution? Or the democratic process? That seems very fashionable now.

The Senate voted 49-50 on a resolution to end Trump’s war in Iran, the seventh such vote to fall short since the conflict began in February. Three Republicans (Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, and Rand Paul) broke with their party to support the measure, while Democrat John Fetterman was the lone member of his caucus to vote against it.

Dr. Rrrrrobotnik's avatar

The day Fetterman gets absolutely slaughtered in the next Dem primary won't come soon enough.

My opinion is that he won't run for Senate again. Voters have just been so unfair to him, by insisting he do the job they sent him there to do, not suck up to the worst people.

He's got his millions from AIPAC. He can go back to Braddock, PA and live the life of a king.

There seems to be no fucking recourse against shredders like him, and Cinema, and Mansion.

It's a beautiful Spring day in Tennessee. 77 degrees with clear skies and light clouds. If you sit very quietly and close your eyes you can almost forget you're living in a Christofascist shithole state.

Enten: "It's not just one poll. The five worst polls ever for any president on inflation, they all belong to Donald Trump and they have all occurred in the last month. What we're talking about here is the worst numbers ever. Joe Biden isn't in there. Jimmy Carter isn't in there."

Don't worry, John Roberts will be okay.

His only hardship is longing for the time when you truly understand what he goes through for the law.

And America.

These White Crackers need to be crumbed into hot soup - burn their asses. I hope the Democrats come out in force in the midterms and elect a couple of representatives anyhow.

South Carolina, no less southern than TN, rejected trump's push for redistricting there. Five GOPers joined Democrats to reject trump's bid. The governor is threatening to call a special legislative session to try again. Here's a quote from the NBC article: “I believe that our state is stronger with vibrant parties. I think we, as a whole, are stronger when we have a clash of ideas. I think that’s true at the national level. I think it’s true at the state level. We are stronger when we have a clash of ideas and we can discuss those policy goals,” Massey said. “Republicans are stronger when the Democrat Party is vibrant and viable.”

One concern of the SC GOP is that increased migration into the state may turn some of the new districts Blue anyhow.

Sometimes it seems like the south never changes, but I do think that there has been change. It's just so slow.

Our_Man_In_Redneckistan's avatar

For the record, the average price of a special legislative session day is $1 million. Per day.

Party of Fiscal Responsibility my ass.

ElderlyLoudCatWomyn's avatar

I hope the local press in TN advertises that.

lol

Was press. Didn’t know that until I went to work for a Legislature.

Last election there was a Florida woman that was responsible for removing roughly 40,000 voters from state rolls by weaponizing a law that private citizens could challenge registrations.

And even Wonkette did not do an article on it.

So, yeah, another snooze fest . . .

ManchuCandidate's avatar

Only the white sounding last names?

A recent ancestor of mine did that (monkey with voter rolls) in the ROK. It didn't end well for him and he ended up in exile in Hawaii. It ironically changed the course of my existence as my dad (and many cousins) were among the protestors. He eventually moved to Canada in part to escape retribution (partially from our own family!)

I can't believe the people who claim to believe in democracy are just ... sitting, passively, going "I've got bills to pay" and just kind of letting this happen

And I don't mean just the "leadership"

And then people have the temerity to wonder how these kakistocrats keep gathering steam

It's because nobody -- or, to be rhetorically precise, NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE -- is/are standing in their way

Republicans own the majority of media voters consume, most of the courts, and are feverishly returning us to Jim Crow.

Dems: Okay, guys. Here’s the plan. We need better messaging. We need to “ talk normal”.

You can always count on the Dems to never understand the assignment.

The people who do actually understand the assignment, though?

OT: How did I know (just by reading "MAGA congresswoman") it was her? The woman is a menace

"A 10-year-old wrote MAGA Congresswoman Virginia Foxx for a school project.

He chose to write about an electric vehicle tax credit. Something he thought was good for the environment.

Virginia responded by attacking him and his teacher for being propagandized.

Her words: “your teacher will not be able to give you a good education as they are too interested in indoctrinating you... How sad.”

Seen on social media "The “indoctrination” spiel is so laughable. The people pushing that nonsense likely haven’t been in a public school in decades. My favorite response to it all is from a teacher that said if they can’t get teen boys to use deodorant, how could they possibly indoctrinate them. 😂"

R. Riddle's avatar

Important note that no one is pointing out in the media on this: Virginia Foxx, before she went into politics, taught English composition at Appalachian State University and Caldwell Community College for a period before she spent of the rest of her academic career in university administration.

Tells you something about her teaching skills.

EyeQueue's avatar

If I wer ethe parent, I would have written that bitch back and told her exactly what I thought of her.

Enough is enough. Civility has gotten us nowhere. It's time to run the trash into the fucking GROUND!
