Proper enforcement of EMTALA emergency abortions is going to require a rapid response strike team to take legal action against any authorities who want to prevent those abortions and also immunity for the providers of said abortions and everyone involved in helping women get the emergency care they need. No empty words! A legal firewall ensuring that EMTALA is followed.
50+ years of anti-abortion propaganda and lies and the American public still supports abortion rights by a wide margin. All that right-to-lie crap didn't move the needle at all. Still, we gotta keep our eyes on the ball, our shoulders to the wheel, and our noses to the grindstone. It's hard to work in that position, but we need to cull these right-to-liars out of government.
Let’s not forget our “friends” on the left who said “Don’t blackmail us!” when we expressed concern about what might happen to SCOTUS and either stayed home or voted for Stein.
I'll type it again and again and again. Amy Democrat can beat any gop anywhere, even in the reddest of red districts, if the Democrat hammers on Dobbs all day every day. Shy away all wishy washy like and lose.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Healthcare professionals use the term abortion very differently than lay people and politicos. Yet politicos are out there making laws about healthcare based on this basic ignorance. They had no idea that the treatment for a bleeding miscarriage is an abortion. Abortion to them is one thing only: killing babies. They're ignorance is truly dangerous. That being said, any and all exceptions to a medical professional's treatment plan is complete government overreach and interference, the very thing that mega complains about.
I do contribute Discordian stuff here periodically. Back in the Discus days I used to preach to trolls by responding to anything they posted with the Principia Discordia, starting from page one.
It's a bit surprising to me that Discordianism and the Illuminatus trilogy isn't better known in general, considering they were addressing (and maybe creating) a lot of the conspiracy theories that are still around today. There are so few strategies to deal with misinformation, maybe we should take a look at some alternative ways to deal with it - getting all of the conspiracy theorists to believe that the Bavarian Illuminati controls everything is probably easier than dispelling their delusions.
Maybe a bit, but you'd definitely have to bring modern sensibility to it and parse it out. I re-read it maybe a decade ago. It's pretty much all male characters, but I don't remember it being too obviously cringe-worthy in that regard. It sets out to be so weird and high-minded that the characters barely interact with each other at all. But yeah, it's all men except Eris herself.
"The HHS will also be creating a team to deal specifically with violations of the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act, or EMTALA, to ensure that those who need emergency abortions will be able to get them regardless of what their state laws say."
That is not necessarily a good thing.
If it puts the feet of hospitals yo the fire to not wimp out on backing doctors then that MIGHT (see below) be good, but the likelihood of enforcement against doctors personally is high and the fine is $50,000 per violation to the doctor themselves. Then, if the hospital is hit as well, it will sue the doctor for its damages.
I really cannot emphasize enough that EMTALA , which is an anti-dumping law, is not a good vehicle for abortion rights.
All that EMTALA says is that an unstable patient cannot be discharged but every doctor and hospital knows that the individual doctor's judgment that only abortion would provide effective stabilization will be immediately challenged by forced birther DA's.
And every doctor knows that even if their hospital backs them it won't be the hospital in the cell if they lose...
Now adding EMTALA penalties to the jail sentences and fines doctors already face - literally creating a no-way-out situation because they will be slapped whether they act or not- is not the solution.
Hey, SCOTUS just did a correct thing! Naturally, Thomas, Alito, Gorsuch and KegStand dissented.
The Supreme Court sided with the Biden administration on Monday and cleared the way for border patrol agents to remove razor wire Texas officials installed along a busy stretch of the southern border until the legality of the barriers is resolved in court.
Gorsuch is very States' rights when it comes to Western state land use and disputes with the federal government. The only positive to this is his tendency to favor native American land rights over federal or state land use demands.

"Across the country, pro-life bills have failed. Abortion referenda have passed."
`
"All Roe will do is return the issue back to the states."
States: *vote overwhelmingly to preserve women's rights*
"No, not like that."
The Buffy reference made me smile. Also, what does that quote even mean? I'm an atheist but also an extremely tidy person. Chaos drives me crazy.
That quote is to be filed under "Random vicious lie pulled out of a garbage person's ass"

Never forget that it would still be the 51st anniversary of Roe if certain people had voted for Hillary Clinton instead of Putin’s dinner guest.

inadequate old white men regulating women's bodies makes me want to go all stabby - and i got no time for their female sympathisers either
Knitting needles make fine stiletto stand-ins.
can confirm
Gotdamn Republicans. Can we please just get off our asses and take back our country?
"...Trump has said that Republicans should consider moderating their focus on abortion bans. “You have to win elections,” he said at the town hall."
Translation:
"Don't mention abortion during the campaign. Wait till I get elected, THEN you can get back to work demolishing reproductive rights."

Order and chaos are illusions. Discord is the reality. Hail Eris!
(throws an apple into the room)
It surprises me a little that Robert Anton Wilson isn't more of a thing here.
I've got my certified pope card somewhere...

Haven't read it since the mid-70s - I wonder how it holds up. I wouldn't be surprised if it was filled with hippie sexism.

Peace is a lie. There is only Passion.

good point
Just considering the pro-choice signs at the top, I think my favorite sign I saw in pictures from post-Dobbs rallies was "I am not ovary-acting!"
I'd like a reporter to ask Mike Johnson if it's God's plan for him to be feckless and weak.
Like they're going to risk their phony-baloney jobs asking that.
I didn't get harumph outta that guy!
Well, that's my gods' plan, anyway.
I think these people are the ones that hate God. If one reads the Bible, the Lord loves killing babies. He's the baby-killin'est god I'm aware of.

[profound sigh of relief]
Oh thank fuck for that.
What is it with Kegger and Gorsucks? Alito and fucking Thomas I expect it of.
Federalist society scum, pushing the neo-feudal agenda.

Woot! Take that, Abbotoir!
