Judge Jay S. Bybee, the former Justice Dept. lawyer who schooled the Bush White House in the "It's Not Torture, It's a New Paradigm" defense in 2002, is a "gentle soul," Adam Liptak reports in today's New York Times. Oh, really? Consider this chilling testimony from a former law school colleague of Bybee's at Louisiana State University: "He has a kazoo collection. He'd get a little ensemble of kazoo enthusiasts together and play. They would occasionally perform the '1812' overture." And that was before he pressed electrodes to their genitals.
