Yup. Gonna have to start all over. Or pull something evil. I'm good at evil. Yup. Not only is the Better Care Reconciliation Act dead; as of this afternoon, with three Republican women saying a very definite "up yours," so is Mitch McConnell's purely-for-appearances "plan" to repeal the Affordable Care Act and then write a replacement when Republicans get around to it. We wouldn't say the ACA is safe by any means, since now Donald Trump is once again
Let me put it another way. Corporatist Democrats either need to change, or leave the party and become the Republicans they really are. They certainly shouldn't be running the party, like they are now. Democrats used to be the party for liberals. It wasn't that long ago.
I'm feeling particularly for Americans caught up in this shitshow, because I'm currently chewing into my country's Ebil Socialised healthcare as we speak. I've not long had a large melanoma removed, and my health care so far has looked like this... - visit to GP for perusal of The Lump - surgical removal of The Lump under local anaesthetic by GP - histological examination of The Lump which showed malignancy - consultation with GP to arrange further treatment - consultation with plastic surgeon - consultation with anaesthetist - wide excision of Lump site under general anaesthetic, repaired with split skin graft. Another Little Lump removed at same time - overnight stay in hospital - histological examination of excised Lump remains and Little Lump - 3x dressing change by nurse, including quick check by GP and removal of stitches - 4 weeks prophylactic antibiotics - post-surgical consultation with plastic surgeon.
So far, this lot has cost me...around A$130. American friends have told me I could expect to put 2 zeros on that figure if I'd been paying for it myself in America. I'm unemployed. The thought of having to choose between finding that much money or LEAVING A CANCEROUS GROWTH UNTREATED is terrifying.
I'm so, so sorry you have to deal with this.
(By the way - the surgeon got all the cancer and I require monitoring, but no further treatment. Thanks for the good wishes)
1) Please don't take this wrong, but I think where you said "I've *not long* had a large melanoma removed" we would say *recently*.2) From our experience, you would have to put 3 zeros (not 2) on your figure to get the charges you would expect in the US.3) Glad to hear that you are doing well. Best of luck and stay healthy, my friend!
Shit, THREE zeros?? Oh crap, I am so sorry you guys have to deal with this horror.I had the appointment today that officially said I don't need any further treatment. HAPPY! Thanks for all the good wishes.
Had a touch of Lymphoma last year, the treatment rolled over from 2016 to 2017 had to pay the out-of-pocket twice. Somewhere between 7k and 10k. And I have what is considered good employer supplied health insurance that I pay $180 a month for.Americans that buy into the Republican BS are fools. I'm all better at least!

Speaking for myself, frogs don't care much for wheelbarrows.
