This takes me back. David Futrelle, when he was posting about Manosphere shenanigans daily (or even more often) at We Hunted the Mammoth, had the BEST illustrations. He has a real eye for hilariously appropriate vintage ridiculousness. "Men's Life" covers were one of his staples.
Back in the Dark Ages, when I was in residence at a "Communist Indoctrination Center" aka an accredited University, I studied some political science I was taught that both Liberals and Conservatives were political Centrists , that they were not light years apart, the biggest difference being that Conservatives were more resistant to change and preferred the status quo to be maintained whenever possible Change should only come about if said change was empirically proven to be superior. Am I that out of touch, that ill-informed. or is it that "I may look pretty young but I'm just backdated Substitute your lies for fact!" Pete Townsend, the "Who"
Ah, yes, the illusions we clung to as the GOP evolved during Nixon and especially Reagan. Then with Gingrich the veil was off and it wasn't about conservatively preserving status quo, but regressively seeking a "golden age" that had never been.
Vance’s comment makes perfect sense about Trump salvaging the Obamacare.
In the Trump worldview America was doing terribly under President Obama. Crime was out of control, immigration was murdering all of us, unemployment was out of control, and no one could afford anything, plus all the other countries were laughing at us because President Obama was weak.
Trump fixed all that and made the country the richest, most prosperous, happiest, and well respected country like you’ve never seen.
I mean I think we’re at the point where facts no longer matter, otherwise Trump and Vance would not be competitive.
I still maintain that Donald Trump and the MAGA cannot be defined as "conservative" or even "right wing" I can't see that they adhere or subscribe to any known or recognized political ideology whatsoever. Just a mish mosh of nonsensical populist notions liberally seasoned with Fundamentalist Protestantism
The advantage of working the proles to death is that they don't have the time or energy to pay attention to what's happening, so you can tell them any bullshit you want! It's win-win!
Both Harris and Walz are about as Centrist as a Centrist can be. If you perceive either as a "leftist", or worse, a "radical leftist", you have moved so far to the political Right that you are in imminent danger of falling off the Right side of the Flat Earth!
If you don't have health care insurance of any type, health care may indeed be way out of your financial reach, unless you go to an old single practitioner country doctor. Nealy impossible unless you live in an episode of "The Waltons" Here is why. If you look at a medical bill you will see a whole lot of different numbers for the same service, Further complicated by service "codes" which have nothing to do with the actual fee. You will see Service fee (X amount) insurance pays (Y amount, a lower figure than X) and you may be billed (Z amount) The amount you may be billed will reach $0.00 once you have met your deductible This is because insurance companies have negotiated "scheduled fees" for all of those services that have a "service code" If you don't have insurance you are responsible for the un-reduced "Service Fee", which will usually be more than double the "insurance Pays" amount. Also, contrary to much misunderstanding, the insurance company normally will pay their part even if you haven't met your deductible, the provider will bill you separately for that, and you can pay it whenever you can afford it or get around to it. Consequently, any provider with half a brain will not apply the full amount of the deductible to one bill, because they want the money the insurance company will pay NOW, not when you get around to it. Yes, medical billing is a real nightmare
Almost 15 years and people still don't seem to understand "Obamacare" It is NOT socialized medicine. It is government subsidized health insurance Just like Medicare parts A.B.C and D You go to any Doctor, present your insurance card and some nice insurance company pays the bill. You and some partner, either your employer or the government pays the premiums. If your employer pays all of or part of the premium, they get subsidized in the form of tax deductions and credits. Even a lot of Medicare billing is handled by private firms. the government utilizes third parties for lotsa stuff! When you get down to brass tacks, unless you self insure,(a really stupid thing to do no matter how rich you are) ALL health insurance is either directly or indirectly government subsidized to some degree. Obamacare is no different.

Is that the cover art for the Canadian release of "Weasels Ripped My Flesh"?
That cover art is bloody amazing. Would love more info as to the Zappa connection. Moon's new book is extremely harrowing :(
To my knowledge, Zappa saw the magazine cover -- yes, it's a real magazine cover -- and decided to name his album after it.
And the cover art for the Zappa album was based on a real ad for an electric shaver, replaced with, of course, a weasel. Rrrrrrrrrr!
Just looked like weasels ripping some guy’s flesh 😉
No wonder Shady Vance is so allergic to fact checking.

BZZZZZZZZZZT....
Anyone else ever feel like rather than having been born with a silver spoon in your mouth, you were born with a plastic fork up your ass?
Worse if it's missing a tine.
I've long thought of the GOP as a pack of weasels, but that image really brings it home.
(Weasels are not aquatic critters, but I guess otters would be just too cute.)
Otters are aquatic weasels, and mink are quite capable of fishing. I've seen mink in the water going after crayfish presumably.

In RW world, anybody to the left of Sean Hannity is a far left commie radical.
Yep, even good ol' Sean has to watch his Ps and Qs lest he be branded a "sochulist"
Greatest most impactful legislation since the New Deal. Absolutely brilliant.
1965 Civil Rights Act is up there too along with Medicare.
