I have never liked the commute (although during COVID lockdowns there were so few people on the train that it was tolerable, and the passengers were masked), but the locals in SoBro never bothered me. I am dreading how desperate many will become when they no longer have money for food because SNAP isn't funded.
I had SNAP for a few years while I was job hunting. I made it work by cooking everything from scratch and buying beans and grains in bulk, and having very, very few treats. When my benefits (cash assistance and SNAP) were unjustly cut off, I dropped 15 pounds (6.8 kg), and applied for emergency help, which I got that same day.
Starving families to score political points isn’t fiscal conservatism. It’s cruelty dressed up as strategy. They could fund SNAP today if they wanted to. The suffering is the point.
