That's 2.5752 billion out of the 2.9 billion promised to “supplement the Basic Allowance for Housing entitlement within The One Big Beautiful Bill.”, so where do the leftovers go? I'm guessing Trump's pockets.

It's pure Trumpian mendacity and condescension, to throw a few bucks at the "little people" while boasting about how generous and appreciative he is of himself. His mind is so fried now that he forgets that he promised everybody in the country $2,000 of the money we lost due to his nincompoopian tariffs. Most of us didn't believe him.

Trump and Hegseth share a bizarre, juvenile infatuation with "warfighters," "warriors" and the trappings of the armed forces - guns, tanks, fighter planes, bombs and the other stuff little kids like to play with. But they're killing innocent people and Americans aren't taking to the streets in protest. Hey, what's the big deal about 90 dead Venezuelans when there's going to be a $400 million ballroom built to honor Trump? I hope the next president takes a wrecking ball to it on their first day in office, but it won't happen. Trump is planting that monstrosity next to the WH so that Americans will always remember the worst years in our history.

Blood money from a criminal - but naturally - not his money at all - as per usual.

Ta, Dok. As you know, darling husband Meccalopolis and I are New Yorkers. We received checks in the mail from the State of New York. Mine was larger, because I make less money. Kathy Hochul did that.

Marycat2021's avatar

I got a check, too. It was Hochul's way of recognizing our financial pain. Elise Stefanik said she knew she couldn't beat Hochul in the next election and was disillusioned about her former idol Trump, so she decided to quit politics and spend her time with her kids instead. That's got to be a huge blow to Trump, and it's well deserved.

This whole "Warfighters Ethos" is the stuff of action movies and comic books It's nonsense directed at people who haven't the slightest notion of the realities of War If you believe that war is somehow "glorious" you should be slapped hard, several times, to get some sense knocked into you War is the most horrible thing imaginable

Marycat2021's avatar

Trump thinks the Battle of Gettysburg was "beautiful." Over 7,000 soldiers died in that bloodbath.

RRJKR's avatar

Because, just like secretary Pete, their concept of war is drawn from action movies and comic books The “good guys” storm in, and totally decimate the “bad guys”while barely suffering a scratch. In the real world, that’s not the way it works! War is Hell! Armed combat is not “glorious”. It is the most awful thing a person can experience. Anyone who feels otherwise has either never experienced it, or is a psychotic weirdo who should be living in a rubber room

The John Wayne syndrome you describe is quite accurate despite the fact that Trump's doctor was paid well to tell the draft board that poor Donny had "heel spurs." And I think Trump differs from the cartoonish Hegseth. Trump is all about image and appearances. He wants to be a "war president" because it would, he thinks, boost his strongman cred.

I really hope we hear who actually got this money

So...what happens to housing for our military?

Like everything Chump, he did the most piss-poor job possible.

"The Donald J. Chump and The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center For the Performing Arts."

They should have taken off the second "The" to make it look normal.

Stupid.

He gave the regular civil service the 24th and 26th off, I assume to encourage us to vote for him. The people in our office will take it, with much cynicism and no quid pro quo.

I'm sorry to inform you that the executive order you are so happy about was signed by autopen, and is therefore null and void.

See you at work next week!

mzf's avatar

I momently that that read "signed by autopenis".

From what I remember working among Navy enlisted, not all of them receive "housing allowances" ( possibly single servicemen without dependents living on base housing ).

Yet the Felonious Fuck claims that ALL military will receive this bonus - but since the money is actually coming from funds appropriated for this, it seems unlikely that ALL military will actually receive this money.

BTW - wasn't this base housing fund what the Orange asshole raided back in 2017 ( or whenever ) to use towards "building the wall"? Maybe that's why Congress had to allocate supplemental funds.

Whale Chowder's avatar

Thar was money formaintenance and replacement of on base housing.

Bupkus231's avatar

But that's part of the problem - a lot of on base housing was already substandard, which is why "housing allowances" were made in the first place.

100% agree. It was a crime then and a disservice to the servicemembers they so claim to love, which is in line with their general hypocracy regarding "TheTroops."

Not every service member gets BAH; only Stateside members who live off base. Young troops living in the dorms don’t get it. Overseas troops get “overseas housing allowance” (OHA) which comes from a different pot. So it will be interesting to see how this plays out…

Daniel O'Riordan's avatar

I can tell you how this works out. Someone in uniform is going to get royally screwed, and Chump doesn't give a fuck.

Donald Trump is a rapist and a pedophile.

Be fair. Codename : Shambles could've just kept the money.

Bitter Scribe's avatar

OK, I just don't understand the basics of this situation.

If the money that Trump is handing out is part of some "housing allowance," how does that square? AFAIK, every servicemember, generals down to PFCs, will get one of those $1,776 checks. But don't servicemembers have to apply for housing allowances? And aren't those means-tested? Presumably, some servicemembers will need more than that in housing assistance, while others will need none at all. How does that translate into a flat fee for everybody?

And if the money is being taken out of housing funds, does that mean servicemembers can no longer apply for help with housing? Or if they do, they'll be less likely to get it, and even if they do get it, they might get less?

That doesn't seem possible. But if it's actually true, this won't be something the Trumpies will be able to conceal easily.

Captain Morgan's avatar

Serviceman not living in the barracks or on ship receive a monthly BAH - allowance for quarters. It is not means tested and does not need approval, although you do need to tell the paymaster you are out of the barracks.

The BBB increased BAH across all ranks and provided the money to fund the increase.

It appears Trump is redirecting money already appropriated for BAH to fund the "bonus."
